Tire suggestions....lots of questions.

First off, I just got my Gram Lights in today. (57Pros 18x9 +40 front, 18x10 +38 rear)

I have tein flex coilovers and rotary extreme trailing arms. My rear fenders are rolled, not a lot, but a nice smooth roll and probably around 1/4-1/3 inch more clearance than stock. The fronts are not rolled yet.

I am trying to decide on a tire and what size.

I am planning on going with 255/35s up front and 275/35 or 285/30 rear. I'm having touble deciding if the 10mm of extra width or the taller sidewall is more beneficial. Its a street driven car and I'll probably get some sticky tires for my stock rims for when I go to the track. What do you guys think, 275s or 285s??

Also I can't decide what brand of tire I want. I'm running SO-3s right now and they are nice, but they are expensive and wear out quickly. I just don't think I'll need that kind of grip on the street.

Some of the tires I am considering:
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
BFGoodrich KDW
Kumho MX
Yokohama AVS Sport or ES100

The Kumho for instance doesn't come in a 255/35 so I would have to go up to a 265 or down to a 245. Will a 265 fit up front w/o problems? Or will a 245 cause some understeer?

I'm also open to other tire choices.

Thanks
Ryan

Roll your front fenders. You'll want to with 9" +40 wheels.

Tires in those sizes are very expensive, plain and simple. You might as well spend a few more dollars to get what you want.

The 285/30 vs 275/35 issue is certainly debatable but if want matched tire diameters, the 285/30 is what you want.

If you are looking at 255/35 and 275/35, I strongly suggest the Toyo T1-S as it is cheaper than many other hi-performance brands and is a very good and light tire.

I think I've decided on the KDWs. Has anyone had experience with these? Are they pretty sticky?

BTW, I too am sick of spending 800.00 plus dollars for tires every Spring so this is one of the reason I've looked onward to other tires manufactures. Hey Bridgestones and Michelin's are the best tires no question, but I can't justify paying the money...

The RT-615's are around 150.00 for 275-40-17 and I know the 235's aren't available yet.... FYI

Let me get this straight. You bought tires just for their tread pattern???

poss: I second the recommendation on Toyo T1-S'. Probably the best bang-for-the-buck tire you can get.

No, I didn't buy Rt-615 because of the tread pattern...they happen to rated pretty high and there pretty cheap and I got a great deal on them (friend owns tire shop)... I was just commenting on the tread pattern...

The Toyo's are great tires too.. I had them too.. So far my favorite street tire are the S02's... favorite race tire are the Hoosier's...

I finally went with some BFG KDWs. 255/35 up front and 285/30 rear. They have a little bit of road noise but stick great. Nothing better than going to a Porsche club auto-X and getting fastest time of the day on street tires.

congrats on the auto-x and tires...

did you happen to get a weight on them before you put them on? Just wondering how they compare.

Does heavy satisfy the question? No, I don't think I want to know what they weigh. I should have though.

and after re-reading what I typed above, it should have said "Fastest time of the day...and I was even on street tires"
