Tire softener for road racing?

I remember reading somewhere a while back, I think it was in Grassroots that you can use tire softeners to revitalize old heat cycle hardened tires.

Has anyone tried this for tires used on road courses?

Please give your opinion on:

How well it worked?

How difficult it was to apply?

How long did it last?

Oh, and what product did you use?

IMO the AVS Sport (and the Intermediate$) could be a great street/track tire, good performance and they wear extremely well but, they harden long before they run out of tread. If I could easily soften them back up they would be my #1 overall street/track tire pick, for now it is still the S02/SO3 PP.

Hmmm, I've heard that "track bite" only has a temporary effect, in that it only lasts a few laps. No actual experience, but this is what other racers have told me. Hoosier racing slicks are only good for a few heat cycles, so their grip decreases dramatically eventhough there's pleny ot rubber left on the tire...so the racers I know that use the "track claw" stuff use it to length the usable life of the Hoosier racing slicks (expensive!).

I haven't tried my AVS Intermediates on the road racing circuits yet. I have to say, you have me a bit excited...I'll look forward to trying the Yokos at Putnam Park...at least in the morning sessions when things don't get quite that serious yet In the afternoon is when most racers start pushing for quick times, and that's when I'll bust out the SSR Comps and Hoosier R3S03s combo
