Just seeing what tires u guys would recommend for my setup. I have a daily driven fd. Street port and sequential twin at 10 psi, so nothin crazy just street. Located in nc so no snow. Needs to grip good in dry and wet. I currently have toyo proxes right now and the sizes I have are front (235 40 zr18 95w) and rear (275 35 zr18 99w). I work at a garage so price really isn't an obstacle cause I get tires at discount except toyos. I have about 10k miles left on my current tires so its time to start saving up for some more. Looking for a good combination of grip and decent tire life. Doesn't matter if tires are directional or non directional. As you can see from my setup, don't really have an option of rotating unless side to side. Thanx in advance for your advice

 

What widths and sizes are your wheels?

 

i have nitto nt-05's on my Evo X currently (for sale btw) and am 100% satisfied with them as street tires. they arent the longest life but the grip is great and i have had no problems in the wet. also, theyre basically dirt cheap ~800 for my set which is 275/30/18. assuming they have your sizes maybe consider those.

 

18s. My rears are wider than the fronts. I have measurements written down at home. Ill post them as soon as I get home and find them. I can't ever seem to remember.

 

The wear rating on my current toyos are around 300 so wear doesnt have to be crazy good. I was looking at the nt555s by have no experience with them. Ill check out the 05s

 

In those sizes, I would recommend:

Hankook Ventus R-S3
Kumho Ecsta XS

 

ill take a look at those too. as far as wheel size i have 18x8 up front and 18x9 in rear

 

18x8 fronts and 18x9 rear

 

Daily driven and "needs to grip good dry and wet" => Definitely no-go on the Kumho XS, and RS-3s aren't so great in cool/damp either.

If price is no object, I'd go Michelin Pilot Super Sports (in fact I did go with these). Street dry grip on par with the more dry-oriented "Extreme Performance" category tires, but with better wet grip and far better resistance to hydroplaning.

If price is something of an object, Sumitomo HTR Z III.

There is a place for dry-oriented "Extreme Performance" tires. But they aren't the best choice for DD street cars...

 

I would go with a 225/40/18 front tire and a 255/35/18 rear.

I would choose a Bridgestone Potenza RE760 sport, or Hankook V12 tire. They are decent all around and won't break the bank.

 

Those sizes would be about ideal fitment on 18x8/18x9. 235/275 is doable, though, if max tire width is desired.

Sumitomo HTR Z III is less $$$ and generally outperforms the Hankook V12 in the wet and dry:

Recommend rooting around in the Tire Rack site looking at test results and customer survey results before buying. TONS of info on a LOT of different tires.

 

falken FK452 or FK453 are good tires as well. I ran the FK451 on my prelude a long time ago. Was pretty happy with the all around performance of them.

 

There is a tad bit of rubbing on the inside with the 235s when i max out my turning radius for u-turns. i kinda like the 275s on the back, but i am no expert. here are some pics of my current setup.

Car looks GREAT! Those tires don't look pooched (i.e., too fat for the wheels) at all. Maybe those Toyos just run narrow?

It's a great tire, I'm sure, but it wasn't really being compared against all the best tires available in the Car and Driver test. In Tire Rack's test, it underperformed a wee bit vs. the Sumitomo HTR Z III, which is a cheaper tire. Personally, I'd go with the Sumitomo for a DD tire if price were a factor (I almost did).

But I don't think anyone would be going wrong with the Hankook v12 evo, either. Or the B'stone RE760.
