I'm looking to pick up a set of rims that are 17x8 in the front and 17x9 in the back with an offset of +45. I've got eibach pro-kit springs on tokico's so it's dropped an inch and I need to know how wide I can go in the front and the back. Car's primarily used for drag, though I anticipate taking it to a few autox events as well.

As far as the model of tire, again take into consideration that I'm looking at primarily drag racing with a bit of autox mixed in. My power range is ~500rwhp, so the stickier, the better. I do drive this on the street, so no slicks or anything of that nature. I'm not very experienced when it comes to different tires, so thanks for any info/advice.

I'm sure I know less about tires than you do, but have you considered putting street tires on one set of rims and your race tires on your new rims? I can't see a whole lot of cross over between street and drag, but then I'm pretty ignorant.

I'm selling off the stockers to help pay for the new rims and tires, besides, I don't have a place to store the stockers when I'm not running on the new rims.

You can go 245 in the front and maybe 265 in the rear. I would probably go with either 235F/255R or 245F/255R.

As far as the brand and model of tire, I was looking at the Nito 555r. Any opinion on those?

I'm sure you probably could, but I don't necessarily think it's a good idea. i.e. you can drive a car with your feet. But just because you can doesn't make it a good idea.

I don't like the 555R. old technology, never heard good things about them. Look into the Falken Azenis 615s.

You sure you don't to buy those rims from me ?

Lol, I'm pretty sure Rich, I love these rims that I found, I just need to get the widest and stickiest tires for the street that I can.

Well, the widths aren't really ideal.

You'd be better off with something like what I've run the last few years.....17x8.5 and 17x10 with 245/40 and 275/40. While a 275 will fit on the 9 inch rim, I don't think it's optimal from a stability under cornering perspective to run such a wide tire on a narrow rim.

If you're going with a 500 rwhp v8, you're looking at lots of torque. 17x8, 9 ain't gonna cut it in my opinion.

What I'm worried about with the NT-01 is if it's got stiff sidewalls or not, that and they pick up lots of road debris. From my understanding, that's more of a road course tire than drag also. I guess I'll just have to go for an all out drag tire, since once I think about it, there aren't really many good dual purpose tires.

It's because whatever makes a tire good for one thing, makes it bad for the other. Basically you can pick:

A great tire for road courses
A great tire for drag strips
A street tire which is NOT great at either

Pick one.

If you want a great all around tire, look into the Michelin PS2, Yoko Advan AD07, or the Potenza RE-01R. All phenomenal street tires with tons of grip, but you're going to pay for it. Quality tires that are more reasonably priced include Falken 615s and Kumho MX.

Front 225/45/17 BF Goodrich G-FORCE TA KD -- 177.00 ea
Rear 255/40/17 BF Goodrich G-FORCE TA KD -- 227.00 ea
