Tire experts, I have one for you.

A tire can be the same size, but sometimes look or be a lot wider, according to the brand. Is there a tire out there that consistently runs wider than others, in a given size? Plus, what is the largest/widest tire that can be run on 18 x 7 1/2 rims, 42 offset? Would they look ok on a FD?

Continental Contisport Contact 2s run wide in 255/40-17 and 285/30-18. Bridgestone RE71 in 225/50-16 ran wide. Hoosier R3S03 in 245/40-17 and 245/45-16 run wide for that size.

215/40-18, if they come in that size?
Would they look ok on a FD?
Why go with 7.5? The stockers are 8 wide? An upgrade would be wider, not just larger! Think, man, THINK!

I do think, thanks. Don't assume I'm putting them on my car. I was simply curious if anyone on here has ever run a weird size rim , such as that, on an FD. I have an additional set that I'm going to sell. I guess, to a ricer. I myself did upgrade, to RH C2s in 18 x 9. I haven't put them on yet because I'm dealing with a rebuild at the moment. Anyway, thanks for the info on the tires, though.

If you were "thinking" you would have "framed" the question more thoroughly, so that we could NOT assume the wheels were for YOUR car. Most of us are here to help, so please be clear when posting a question. Luckily I'm not aware of any FD owners that have mounted 7.5 x 18s on their cars--at least not during my tenure as mod on this forum?

Thats cool, I'll be more specific in the future. I always appreciate the advice, no matter what. You, Rishie and quite a few others really know your stuff and didn't mean to come across as being a smart-*** or something.

Yoko AVS Sports seem to be wide for their nominal sizes. Toyo T1-S seem to be narrow for their nominal sizes, but they are light and seem to still offer excellent performance in comparisons with other tires of the same nominal size.

A general rule of thumb might be that tires with "square" profiles tend to be wider than tires with "round" profiles for a given size. This is no great revelation, but it might be useful for guessing based on appearance.
