Thumbs up Tire comparison test in latest Grassroots Motosports magazine

If you haven't seen it already, the latest Grassroots Motorsports magazine has a tire test comparing the following tires:

- Dunlop Z1 Star Specs
- Bridgestone RE-01R
- Bridgestone RE-11
- Kumho XS
- Falken Azenis RT-615
- Toyo Proxes R1R

Interesting results and feedback on the tires.

I'm running the Dunlops. Great tire. Nice communication at the limit with very good grip.

I read in another forum that the test used a few different tire sizes, which may have altered the results a bit. I have not yet read it yet.

I want to see the tire rack do a test between the Dunlop Z1, Hankook H3 and Kumho XS tires. All are reasonably priced unlike the Yoks and Stones and all available in my fav size, 255/40/17. :-) I'd ask for the Falken 615s to be tested too but they don't carry that brand.

Yes they used a different size for the Star Spec since that tire didn't have the tire size they needed for their test car. I was surprised how well the Kumho XS did. The MX was a great tire and it looks like the XS "kicks it up a notch".

It would have been nice if they included the Nitto NT05 to that mix.

There are quite a few more tires in the comparison than shown in the post.

The GRMS mag is at home, but I believe the NT05 is in the article.

Not in mine. The GRM comparison was "street tire". I think the NT05 is an R comp.

I hear they'll test the NT05 and the RS3 in an upcoming issue this summer. The NT05 is not an R compound tire.

The sizes were 205/50/15 except for the 195/55/15 Z1 Star Spec (likely a part of why it was slower) and 195/50/15 Bridgestone RE-01R.

It was late when I was reading. Maybe it was an ad on the same page.

Honestly, all the tires did very well. The author's impressions of each tire were the parts I found most interesting and helpful for tire selection. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them. The Kumho XS was on top based on autocross times by a little bit on their test track. It can be said that it wasn't a 100% fair comparison since the Dunlop was a smaller, less appropriate size.

Would you mind sum up the result? I'm not in the US., but many of those models are sold here. I'd love to know this for reference as well. (no Nevoa in the test?)

Thanks,
Pom HB
