Tire Choices

My rear tires are getting kinda low on tread, so I'm going to replace them soon. I've been looking at the BFG G-force T/A KDW's. I found them for 125 at Sams. Are these really as good as people make them sound? Any other recommendations? Ive got TII rims - 16x7 - with 205-55-R16 tires. Can you go a little wider on these rims? Also, should I replace the fronts tires at the same time, or does it not make much difference. The fronts have Barum tires with about 5k miles on them. They're decent tires, but nothing to write home about.

yea you could do 225 probably... I wouldn't recommend it though... if you went 215/50 your speedo would read 60mph when your going 59mph(would read 1.7% too fast), and if you went 215/55 it would read 60mph when you were going 61mph(would read 1.7% too slow)

your best bet is to run 205/55 like you already have just because its an exact fit, and is recommended for that size rim... plus the speedo would be on exactly.

and the BF goodrich g-force T/A KDW 2 tires are what I'm looking at for my car this summer maybe... must be the new version of what you saw since it has a 2, thats my guess atleast. but tire rack rates all its tires in different categories. it is the best by my standards, best wet and dry traction, all its bad at really is road noise. tire rack has them for $145 so if you can't find the second versions anywhere else I know they are there. They are supposed to be amazing tires.

hope this helps

Ah, so thats why sams was cheaper than the tire rack, they have a new one out. I don't give a damn about road noise. Theres no way I could hear it over my car anyway.

don't do 225s on a normally aspirated. first it will make the car understeer too much. plus they have too much grip for the amount of power an NA puts out.

I had 225 rears and 205 fronts on TII wheels on my old GTU and I really hated the way the car felt like that. I also had the 205/225 setup on a couple of my modded TIIs and it felt better b/c it made it easier to put the power to the ground and steer with the throttle.

can't suggest anything about tires, but i can say that you will notice a huge difference with a good SET of 4 tires. if you just do the rears they will stick much better than the front and it will feel like the car is understeering more. at least that was my experience.
