Think I'm Gonna Rub? Gramlight 57Pros / Stock Suspension

Hey All, So back in April I ordered the (Will be here in August)
Gramlight 57Pro: 17x9 +40 and 17x10 +38 with
Tires: 245/40 and 275/40. Yokohama ES100s

I am running stock R2 suspension. All I was going to do is upgrade to H&R Sport springs. Couple people via PM said. Well, you will be fine with stock suspension others say "Ohhhh you're gonna rub! / aint gonna fit!"

Just wanted everyone's opinion on this...Am I looking at $1500+ in coilovers to run these?

You'll be close in the front with Eibachs. Their drop in the front is a little more than advertised. I rubbed with Eibachs and 17x9 +43 using 255/40 in the front (had the fenders rolled). On the stock suspension, you should be fine.

You think the stock R2 shocks will not work? I was leaning towards this setup mainly because SleepR1 recommended it...

You're going to make it very easy to catch the fender lip up front if you lower the car with springs. Also, a 275 tire on a 10" +38 wheel will be very close to the rear fender lip, depending on camber and tire model.

The Koni shock can give you an adjustable perch. However, IMO, if you want that adjustability, go with a coilover setup.

Right now it's pretty much a money thing...Having spent clost to 12k on my single / ported reman / wheels I am about tapped out for this years funds...And probably next years too.

I am no road racer other than a few highway pulls and stop light to stop light type deals...maybe couple times at the drag. So once it's on I am not adjusting anything

If I can get away with springs for now i will do that while my pocket replenishes.

IMO, put the wheels/tires on the car and see what happens. A little rubbing isn't going to automatically blow your tire. If you hear rubbing, then you can check out your options on how to take care of it.

Rolling the fenders is always an option, but not really a good one as the paint will most likely chip when having it done. I plan on getting my car repainted over winter so I didn't care about the paint (function over fashion for me right now), and my old *ss paint did chip.

Yeah, let me know how they fit, cause i'm ordering the same size wheels in a GTN and need to know if those offsets will work alright. I"m going to be running tien flex coilovers though, but either way, id like to know.

i replied to a pm about the same issue, but figured i'd post it here too. i've got the 18's, but same width and offsets. i have 255's and 285's. i have absolutely no rubbing with the car lowered quite a bit. the rear fender lips are rolled as far as my body guy could get them. i think they would rub if not. the front however is stock and just fine. as far as clearance between the wheels and the suspension, you should be totally fine. i'd just get the rear fenders rolled and be done with it

spoolin93r1,
so in your application, 18x9 - 255/35/18 and 18x10 - 285/30/18, it safe to say that if you keep the stock susupension, you won't have any rubbing issues at all ? and if you lower it some, you will have to roll the rear fenders ?
thanks,
k.c.

you could probably get by with it, but if you put enough load on the rear corners or hit a hard enough bump, you could hit the fenderwell and damage a tire or wheel. i'm not sure exactly how much clearance problems you'd have, as my fenderwells were rolled before i bought the wheels

So for an update on this. I put the wheels and tires on and with stock suspension I rubbed only when going over bumps that cause the rearend to dip. Front didn't rub at all...

NOW, I put H&R sprins on and I am rubbing like a maaahfakka....The rear rubs at the slightest bump....and the front is rubbing the liners....

So i am looking into rolling or trimming the fender....

Most all front setups that are lowered w/ aftermarket wheels will rub the liners, it's just a fact of life... i'd at least roll the fenders for safety.

Are you rubbing liners in the rear, or fender lips?
