what setup are you gonna get and whats yur car? overall tein has a very good name goin for itself. i am plannin on gettin the super drift setup for my fc when that is released.

i was thinking of getting the super street or the flex setup, but my boy seems to think i should stick with the basic setup. he says its cheaper and more than enough for me, what do u think of the basic setup?

yea i agree with yur friend. in this particular scenario i believe that the BASIC setup is better than FLEX looking at it from a performance stand point! the BASIC uses the same springs as the super street just different dampers (i was amazed when i saw that). so yes i think you should go with the BASIC but the true choice is yours.

i have the tein FLEX w/ edfc on a FD. i love them. your choice in which tein to get is up to your needs, and there are major differences between the three. the spring rates may be the same but the coilover systems are all completly different. the edfc is an option alot of people dont find it necessary, it allows the user to adjust the level of damping force from inside the cabin. again it all depends on your needs, me for example i life in the bay area and do alot of traveling san francisco where the roads are just terrible so its great to be able to set my damping force to a more softer more comfortable setting from the inside of the cabin rather than getting out opening the hood and fiddling with the lil wrench thingy. i would goto the tein website and carefully re-read all the differences. hope this helped out some.

i do not recommend the Tein Basic or Super Street as they are 670 front and 560 rear spring rate. way too stiff for the street.

fine for sliding around, grinding up tires and going slow.

i recommend the Tein Flex. 560 front 450 rear. right on the upper edge of spring rate for aggressive street and tracking.

I have the super street on my car and the ride is very similar to the flex. The ride is not harsh at all. I almost sold my brand new super streets because i thought the spring rates were too stiff. But in real world conditions it very good. I have a post about the super streets on this suspension section. My car with the super streets drives very similar to my friends fd with the flex. But i'm not sure what settings he is running. I'm running about 8 in the front and 5 in the rear. I have not used them on the track but from driving the car i would say it should do just fine. I'm new to the road racing thing so i should be more than enough. I've had them on for about two weeks and i have no complains. I car pool with my friend and he was amazed at how the teins felt over bump roads. Theres a lot of them in san francisco. IMHO i would recommend the super street over a set of adjustabel shocks and lowering springs.

How is it that you have a modded 1st gen when you just turned 15? You can't even get a provisional permit until 16 in New Jersey.....I guess you don't worry about the law, "being gangster".....


Anyway, Tein is probably the best of the reasonably priced coilovers, and they are rebuildable in the US, a major consideration. I would have gone with the Tein Flex if I wasn't offered a very nice deal by Auto RnD for the Zeal B6.

rynberg, did you hop on that sponsee deal they were offereing with the endless brakes? if you are then your one lucky guy, i was contemplating sellin my flex's to grab that deal too but then my stupid stock rim cracked so i fenced for some new work rim's. i seen your car at rick's rotary a while back, and i must say your car is very clean. maybe i'll see you around sometime.

my car might by joining your's soon. i think my 1st gear is having problems but i'm not sure. i can't tell cause of my exhaust but i think its making alot of noise and when i'm at a stop then try to get going it kinda feels like the car is hopping before it smoothly gets going, every other gear is fine though. its weird, i dunno gotta save up some more money though before i take the car to ricks.

I love my Tein Flex. From all the mods I done to the car this is the best and the one I'm the happies about. they are very streetable, very confy. to me they feel like they are better than stock at the low setting. What i like about them over the other 2 that you got there is that the shock is threaded. So when you lower the car you don't compromise the shock travel.

my sponsor special ordered them for me but anyways i got crazy dampering in front its at 8 and 9 in the rear it never squats and since im running stock 15 inch bbs rims on falken azenis rt615 15 205 50 i got enough cushion for the bumps very expensive tho!!!

The way the tein super streets are designed, with the ride height around 25.3 from the top of the fender to the floor, the spring is always has tension. The spring never moves around when the suspension is unloaded. The height adjuster is about in the middle in the front and back. So i dont thing it looses any shock travel as compared to the flex which has a seperate height adjustment. But if you were to slam the car to the floor, then i would loose some shock travel.

I actually took Howard's advice on this one. He thinks that even those spring rates are at the high end of "okay." But I went a step further with TEIN and custom ordered different spring rates. From the factory, they come:
Front - 10kg/mm (559lbs/in.)
Rear - 8kg/mm (448lbs/in.)

But I had them include two extra springs with different spring rates - 6kg/mm. They resized the coilovers at the factory and the extra springs were only $120. I still have the old springs with the 10kg/mm spring rate, so if anyone wants to buy them brand new, $100 from me. PM me! Now I'm riding on these:
Front - 8kg/mm (448lbs/in.)
Rear - 6kg/mm (336lbs/in.)

Anyways, I HIGHLY recommend the TEIN Type FLEX Coilover setup. I love them and they were very easy to install. PM me though before you install them if you are using the instructions on www.iluvmyrx7.com. Anyways, definitely recommend them and I love mine. The fact that you can adjust the ride height independently and the ease of adjusting the dampening force is incredible!

Anyways, good luck making your decision and let us know how it turns out!

does your opinion change if the car will be driven on road coures always with R compound tires? are those rates good for that? because that is my primary intention. is the shock strong enough for those rates?
