suspension on a budget
suspension on a budget
Alright guys, I've decided to put my focus on doing the suspension this summer. For an 88' SE. And with a budget of $2000 INCLUDING wheels and tires, what should I get for my car? I already know that the 4 lugs are going away pretty fast...so if anyone is selling a 5 lug conversion PM me.
I would highly suggest RSR Race Springs, KYB AGX or Tokico Illuminas. For wheels I would suggest the 5Zigen FC01RC since you're 4 lug in a 17x8.0. They are the only ones I know to produce this width in 4 lug.
You can run 225/45/17 on all four corners. I estimate approx: These are not exact figures since i'm not at the office.
$800.00 for wheels
$200.00 for springs
$430.00 for struts
$500.00 for tires
This will put you near $2000.00. Other things I would suggest are Tein camber plates for the front and AWR independent camber adjusters for the rear. THis would be a little less than $500.00 more but would greatly compliment your setup.
I have all these items in stock. If you're interested please email me sales@autornd.com. This is the setup i'm running on my GTUs but 5 lug of course. It's great. Linear spring rates, so far better than Eibach springs, and RSR Japanese proven heritage.
Good luck, Rishie

Alright that was exactly what I was looking for...thanks.
Another question thats not really related to suspension though: If I'm going to try to set my car up for road racing/cornering as opposed to trying to get a great 1/4 mile time.... would swapping in LSD be of any use?

Yes it will. LSD's will give you better traction in corners, especially a Torsen unit from a FD, which I heard is a direct drop in to TII diffs, not sure about 4 lug diffs. I've seen Torsen units on Ebay for around $300 or so. I have heard LSD's from Miatas will fit in the 4 lug diffs, not sure though, you might want to do a search. But definitely, LSD's are not just for straight line grip.

what jarred said.... GXL clutch pack style rear end with fresh fluid and LSD additive. Works great.
Run some used S5 '89-91 16x7 T2 rims 16lbs each ($250 max) or BBS vert 15x6.5" rims that are 14lbs each (even lighter about $200-350) and spend the real $$$ on some good tires (Toyo RA-1 or comparable).
Eibach springs and a good strut/shock combo is important also. T2 front sway bar or an upgraded one. Install Energy Suspension eurathane bushings ($100 from suspension.com) and rear toe eliminator bushings (from Mazdatrix, Racing Beat, TriPoint Engineering).
Some Hawk HP+ brake pads were fine on my FC with stock 140hp 13B with full road race coilovers, 235/40/17's, 17x8 TSW's. They dust a lot but work great and didn't fade on me... I did get them to smoke pretty good after a 1 hour thrash on them.....
.
Good luck,
Mark

I have a set of used Turbo2 front and rear swaybars Id sell cheap, $25 + shipping. They will make a noticable difference. All you would need is new bushings. PM me if interested.
