Question Stoptech bbk ?'s

After some research and since the mandeville kit is no longer available, I am 99% sure I will be going with the stoptech kit. What I am not sure on is to buy the one setup for stock or '99 rears. I would like to keep my stock rears for now. If I go with the setup for stock rears will I be able to upgrade them later to work with the '99's, if and when I do get them? What is different between the two?

thanx in advance-Garrett

No, you couldn't upgrade them later without getting new calipers. The difference is that the piston sizes are slightly larger in the calipers designed for the 99 rears. This would result in a slight front brake bias with the stock rear brakes. This isn't a killer issue or anything, just something to be aware of. Unless you are regularly tracking the car, the stock rears are fine.

I am starting to track the car more so the 99's will likely be going on the car at some point. Sounds like opting for the larger piston calipers may be a better choice.

not to pirate the thread but............. i am curious what the pedal feel is like on the stoptech bbk setup, my mechanic said it was a heavier feel then the brembo GT bbk, (though he only installed a few of each), i would love to see input from drivers who actually have bbks, on pedal feel, pedal travel, and bias issues if any.......we all can read the reviews and develop opinions but real data says alot.....

The StopTech pedal feel is great, even with a stock MC. I've had some issue with the pedal "setting up" a little bit lower (maybe 1/2") when the pads are worn below half way, but other than that, zero issues. They're matched to the stock rears.

One big advantage the stoptech has over the brembo----stoptech comes with the proper bias for either stock rear brakes or 99 rear brakes as mentioned above, other bbk such as brembo, greddy etc will throw off the bias by as much as 8% as per howard coleman.

I've had the Stoptech fronts with 99 rear for about 4 months now. Nice pedal feel, you tell the calipers are stiffer than stock.

I'd prefer a little shorter travel, which was not noticably more than stock. Just got my 929MC from Malloy today so that should help. Haven't adjusted the pedal any yet. Would love the feel of Porsche 911 brakes and it's getting there.

I haven't tracked the car in the 10 years I've owned it so I can't give a track asessment. On favorite off/on ramps with decreasing radius type turns and select back roads, they feel balanced. It takes several tight turns to get some heat in them and really feel the difference for street driving.

Jack

PS - I've been watching the new brakes Howard Coleman has been working with since that will provide a matched front/rear sets. Very nice that companiese are still developing new products for the FD.
