Question Staggered Setup question (and Lowering)

Alright folks… here is my situation. My FD currently has the stock wheel and suspension setup. I am looking into getting new rims, tires, and springs or coilovers.

For my setup, I wish to have 18's, and possibly a staggered setup. So my question is, what do y'all recommend? I don't wish to roll any of my fenders. So what is the widest tire/rim I can put out front? How about out back? What's the widest I can go without sticking out past the rear fenders? Could you guys please tell me the rim size X width, and tire size… I was thinking like a 235 or 245 out front on 18 x 9's, with a 265 in the rear with 18 x 10's??? Is that feasible? Another thing… can someone explain the concept of "offset" for me? Is this something that is predetermined by the kind of car? What offset do I need to run and why?

And lastly… springs or coilovers. What brand do you recommend? And how much drop front VS rear do you recommend? I already have a hard time getting up and down steep driveway or entrance… scraping sucks. Lowering it will definitely look sportier, but at the expense of scraping and also difficulty getting it up on an alignment machine (it barely made it the last time)…

Thanks for the help guys... also, pics with setups you recommend would be appreciate and helpful.

Go to the suspension forum, including the archives, and spend about a week reading.

For wheel fitments, you can search using my username, Ptrhahn, SleepR1, ARDT2, and Gfelber.

Springs/coilovers, you can use the same names, add Howard Coleman and dis1.

Setup questions -- Just about anything that DamonB posts is very good info as well as everyone mentioned above.

Offset -- read through stickies in Suspension forum or go to Tire Rack and read all of their wheel and tire tech sections.

If you could barely get on the alignment machine last time, you need to stop going to mass market shops and go to a racing/high performance shop that knows how to deal with sports cars, preferably one with FD experience.
