SSR Comps 17X10 all around?
I could have sworn there was a gent that has 17X10 SSR Comps on all four corners with 275/40 17's. But I can't find the thread with the pictures, anyone want to lend me hand? I'm thinking of going with that setup and need to know the offset and would like to see the pictures.

According to the SSR web site (which has been updated since the last time I was there) they make SSR Type C (Competition) in a new 'RS' model with widths of 10" or 10.5" and a offset of 45mm. They are 17-17.5 pounds. I kinda doubt anyone around here would have that yet though since they must be new.
I'm sure you've seen the post ( https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...SR+Competition ) where Fritz is selling some Competitions that are 17x9.5", and he has 275's on those.
My choice for light wheels would be CCW's race wheels which you can get in 18x10". Those can take 285/30's front and I believe they weigh about 20-21 pounds. That's what Damian is using on the track beast.

A standard Comp size is 18x9.5 with +50 offset. This works perfectly with 265/35 tires all around. The 17x9.5 size only has +42 offset, which is too low for street driving IMO (for the fronts), although I guess some get away with it for track use.

ptrhann, What is your ride height, measured from the ground to the fender lip? Do you have any pictures showing the clearance you have (or don't have!??)

I've got coilovers so I can mess with the height, and I already have a few sets of 275/40/17 tires, so I would like to stick with that size. The CCW 18X10 are another option to consider because the diameter is much closer to stock, but the added weight and cost do turn me off.

My ride height is 25" from ground to lip at all 4 corners... I don't habe any real good pictures of the front clearance, only the rear which is REAL tight as well:

The site is just the normal one. SSR Website I was assuming they updated it because there was new wheels I've never seen before. The 'last modified date' on the HTML is April 22, 2004 though, so I might be wrong.

What exactly is the reason to run such a wide tire up front anyway? I could be wrong, but I've never heard of people having issues with lack of front end grip. Just trying to understand.

When you purchase tires that cost that much money it would be nice to get the most out of them.

It's best to go with same size wheels/tires all around to maintain the FD's neutral handling quality. If you go asymmetric (narrower front, wider in back), you get more understeer. 255/40-17 on 9 x 17 all around with 45-mm offset is about perfect for both road and track use. To go appreciably wider, you'll need to upgrade to either 9.5 x 18 (+45 to +50 offset) with 265/35-18 tires, or 10 x 18s (+50-mm offset) with 285/30-18 tires (requires 2.5-inch coil springs and some ride height adjustments).
