squeeking shock....help please.

My front passenger shock has been squeeking for a while now. It mainly squeeks when I go over bumps or if I push down on that corner of the car. I'm thinking I need new shocks but I'd hate to waste $400 on shocks and find that the noise is still there. TIA --- Jason

Check the For-Sale section for a used one. Dont spend that 400 dollars yet, just buy a used one for like 50 bucks.

First thing to do is use a can of spray on grease to find what's sqeaking. Spray the shock (under the boot - if it's still there). Test drive. If it still sqeaks, spray the bushings one at a time, until the noise stops.
I like to buy the spray on white grease, because it's needed for door hinges and latches (as well as hood and hatch), so you don't end up with a useless can of goo after you solve that problem.

I hope the spray on grease does the job. I figured that a ten year old car would be due for some new shocks but maybe I've been driving the Camry around too much to remember how hard the ride is in a FD. Thanks for the reply Ali and David...if the grease doesn't do the trick, I'll probably buy a used shock instead of replacing all four.

But for some reason, I have a phobia of buying used suspension components due to the inability to truly know how many miles (or km) the previous car has been running on them.
But then again, it seems like 99% of the people on the forum respect one another and practice good business, so maybe I'm just paranoid.

Thanks again for the help guys --- Jason

I would replace the rubber upper shock mounts before I did anything else.
