Spring lengh vrs perch height

my k2rd sleved coil overs (basicly the same as ground control) have my rear perches turned up almost all the way to the top. about 1/2" of thread left showing. is this ok? or should I get some 1-2" longer springs so the perch is more in the middle? does it really matter?

It probably doesn't matter as long as the spring doesn't bind on itself before you hit the bump stops. The only other problem might be if you can move the spring up and off the sleeve when the car is jacked up and the suspention is in full droop. If that is the case, the spring might not seat correctly when you let it down off the jack. I would want longer springs, but if these two issues aren't a problem, you probably don't have anything to worry about.

longer springs wouldn't solve either of those problems. cause the perch would just be that much lower. there for the same amout of a gap at full drop

Longer springs solve both problems -- more travel before binding on themselves and longer so there will be more of the spring left on the shock when you are in full droop. I agree that you'll have the same gap, but if the length of the gap is less than the length of the spring that is around the sleeve, there won't be any chance of it getting caught on the top of the sleeve when you let the car down. Longer springs increase the length of the spring that will be around the sleeve.

but the spring sits on the bottom perch when it's jacked up. it's the top that needs to be fitted in. I have to lower it slowly to make sure it gets in. a longer spring/lower perch wouldn't change that. I'd need shorter shocks to fix that.

I have mine tied to the hat on the top perch so that they come off of the bottom perch in full droop. They reseat more reliably that way.
