Spring Clips, need em on an FD?

I just changed my rear brakes on my 93 FD and found only 1 spring clip on each side, this is the ones that push the pads apart and I assume are for noise. The springs were in pretty bad shape and would not go back in correctly so I just deleted them.

Is that the only reason they are there, noise?

Our Miata had them but those brakes were super finicky for noise.

I'll never hear these over the exhaust and I took it for a drive and no audible problems.

BTW, the person who came up with the CLIP for the E-brake is a genius, compared to the person who I swore at many a times changing the rears on our Miata.

Thanks

I was told by my mechanic that the reason my last set of rear pads overheated and basically fell apart was because the mechanic before that left the spring clips out. They help hold the pad just off the rotor surface when cruising.

Know where I can get some?

I plan on buying aftermarket pads again and think only the Mazda OEM's come with the hardware kit.

Thanks

You can get the rear springs individually:

FD01-26-233

There is only one per side on the rears.

Thanks for info. I'm about to do my brakes and think I'll get some new ones.

Awesome, thanks for the PN.

On the Miata you had to buy the Miata Brake kit from Mazda, big bucks to just get some springs.

Going to order some decent pads and when I throw them back on the springs will go with them.

Rynberg, how much they go for? What about the front two M springs? I tried getting a replacement hardware kit, but the damn m springs were the wrong size.

I don't know, I doubt more than a few bucks -- still on the originals myself....

You have to order a front pad set to get the front two M springs....
