Single Vs Dual Piston caliper

I was reading that if you run the single piston caliper off the base model FC that it would give you more wheel clearance then the dual piston caliper off of the FC. When i say clearance i mean the distance from the outside of the caliper to the back side of the front face of the wheel. (similar to wheel backspacing). Is there any truth to this?

I ask this question because i need to run a spacer on the wheels i have in the front to clear the brake caliper. I would like to alleviate this spacer if possible. If that means swapping to a single caliper in the front, i could most likely make that happen.
