shock storage

I have my car on jack stands with the wheels on. A friend told me its not good for the shocks to be fully extended suporting the wheels, arms, hubs etc. Is this true?

Its fine as long as when you take the car off the jack stands you do it slowly, otherwise you risk blowing shocks/struts.
