Rims offset

Its time for me to get some rims for my fd. I´m going for 8x17 front and 9x17 rear. Here is a pic showing how I want my rims to line up with the fenders. What offset can this car have on it´s rims?

sorry the large image

I strongly believe you are looking for trouble with a setup that looks like that.

I used to have a staggered setup in the sizes you are looking for with a 32mm offset F and 38mm offset R. You do not want to go lower than this.

Email me (username is my email address) for pictures.

Go wider. I would do AT LEAST an 17x8.5 up front and 17x9.5 rear with an offset around +42 - +45. This way you can put a 275-285 tire in the back. The car in the pic probably has an offset in the 30s and I can almost guarantee it rubs.

Here's pretty much the widest you can go for each width.

17x10+50
17x9.5+44
17x9.0+38
17x8.5+32
17x8+26

Offsets can only go higher and those are the lowest you can go considering you have: Rolled fenders, high spring rates, normal-streached tires. With these offsets you can't have big *** meats (tires).

^ oh yeah, the above is for the front only . . . .

The rears can fit about .5 even up to 1.0 inch with those offsets.

Dunno where you got these offsets from (too low) but I don't recommend them at all; an 8" wide wheel I wouldn't go lower than +32, 8.5" +37, 9" +45, etc., etc.

These numbers are from several forum members. There's a guy that recently but on 17x9+35's on the front of his car with a 235 tire (the black fd with 5zigens up top)--->

There's the guy named D Cups who threw 18x8.5+32 on the fronts (black fd with SSR's on it) ---->

These offsets aren't for performance, or grip, since you have to streach the tire out. They are for mainly the "Big Lip Look". Like i stated previously, if you want fat tires, stick with a higher offset. Also, as previously stated, you need rolled fenders with a coil-over kit with a high spring rate.

thanks for all helpfull info. how much will the oem suspension flex? I don´t have a coilover kit, so will my suspension touch the tires if going for a big offset?

It's not the suspension you have to worry about, it's the tires smashing into the fender lip or catching and ripping them out. Setups like the one in the pic you posted are purely for appearance, they compromise performance and function. Running a higher offset (the wheel is more sunk into the wheel well) allows wider tires and doesn't change the suspension geometry. And still looks great.

Re-read your first post in this thread. You never mentioned the words, "coilover kit", and that's what I was looking for.

It's always important to include suspension setup especially when recommending low offset wheels. No way this would work with stock shocks and springs.

You're right. I assumed that people automaticly assumes coil-overs when they hear "high spring rate".

8J-17 +42 Front, 9J-17 +47 Rear

I assume that 42/47 will look almost as stock rims. Is this going to look ok? It will be a bit wider outwards then stock right?

Those would fit great. But if you can find 17x9 +47, I would run that front and rear with 255/40 17s. That way you can rotate tires.
