looking to pick up a set of 17x9 with a +40 offset for my autocross track wheels. I am currently running koni yellows and RSR spings (not the race ones). I've tried all the caculators "will it fit" and apparently they do but they will fit but not by much. I was wondering should i go with something staggered instead? i'm getting a pretty good deal locally on them, but i'd hate to buy them and be left with a junk setup. opinions are welcome thank youoh this is for an fd

Those will fit, but not without a little effort. You'll most likely need a fender roll which I would recommend with aftermarket wheels and a lowered car regardless.

I would recommend running a staggered tire setup with those offset though, probably 235 F and 255 R. Running the 235 up front should help with rubbing issues.

I run 17x9 with a +45 and 255/40/17 on Konis with H&Rs. It just fits but not much extra room. I know a few people that tried the same setup on a +40 and it rubs.

235 and 245 would allow more clearance. Not sure what the overall diameter works out to be with 245s. So would a different offset.

umm i am looking into same wheels as well but they only come in two size and two offsets here is the link for it, i was thinking about going 17x9(45 offset) in front and 18x8 (35 offset) in the back but not soo sure if the front one would fit and back one?

IMO, you'll be better off with the 17x9 +45 all around. If you "really" wanted a more aggressive look in the rear, you could use a spacer.

I would not put a 9" wheel in the front and then a 8" wheel in the rear.

Oops, just looked at the link. I'm assuming you mean 17x8. In that case, you could run that but I would probably run the same size all around. You can get the +45 in the 18x8:

You do realize that your overall diameter with the tire is going to end up being about the same as stock 16" with 225's regardless of 17 or 18's (unless you don't care about your speedo)?

So all you'll end up with is more sidewall in the front than in the rear. I'm not sure what that accomplishes but the +45 offset will not be a problem for fitment on a 8" wide wheel.

The real question is what are you trying to accomplish?

Using a 17" wheel, will give you less sidewall with a 16" when keeping the same overall diameter. Basically, the way to think about is say with the tire, the stock wheels are 20" (making up this number) in diameter with 16" of that being rim so 4" of sidewall.

If you run a 17" wheel in the front and then an 18" wheel in the back, you'll have 3" of sidewall in the front and 2" of sidewall in the rear. Is that the look you want?

The cars that generally do this are generally designed to run a lower profile tire up front with the smaller rim. The RX7 was not designed that way. IMO, you'll be better off running 17x8 or 18x8 all around as you'll be able to rotate tires around to maximize your wear.

well i guess i wanted to do something different like same setup as corvette 17's in the front and 18s in the back, not really that i dont want that look if u put it that way i think it ll look stupid!

You probably dont want to do that because more sidewall means more flex it could cause the car to understeer. The corvette was designed to have different size rims but with the same amount of sidewall.

oh k well i think i am goin go with 17x9 and 18x9 what u guys think of that? not soo sure as i am still thinking about it
