Probablly bad bushings (commonly FD's). It could be a bunch of things, shocks, bushings, etc. Take off the wheel and start inspecting. Then again, it could just be something you have in the hatch just moving around

thanks I was thinking it was the bushings, mine are the old originals so I'm going to have to get those replaced. Thanks again

what year/model fc?

back in the late 80s/early 90s, there were a few Turbo IIs whose driver's side rear suspension arm coming off the area near the diff developed hairline cracks that were unnoticeable to the naked eye and then eventually cracked while under stress (street and drag racing). sounded like clunking at first and when it got worse you would feel what felt like you running something over with the rear wheel when making tight 90 degree turns.

i only observed this happening on 2 87 + 88 turbo 2s

I've got an 88tII hum.......Well really this happens only when going over bumps. I've taken it around turns pretty quick and no noise then. Strange.

Have you taken off the rear tires to inspect or at least jacked it up and looked under there to see if anything is loose/broken?

It could be a number of things... bushings, cracked sway bar links, loose part. Could be a rear diff mount but that typically only clunks under hard accelleration/shifting.

Get under there in good lighting with a bright flashlight and look at all the points that have movement.

If I heard crazy noises like that I would certainly at least look under there before something got worse or broke and caused you to crash.
