Ran over a cement block and F*&^@# my sway bar and mounts

Hey...

don't ask about the cement block

anyways, with the car up I noticed that the cement block hit the left mount of the front sway bar.

This pushed the radiator mount back, bent the sway bar, and the end link?? Is that what it is called (the piece that goes through the lower control arm)?

Also I am having Koyo fitment issues with the rx7fashion airbox and since I bent the bracket as well as the mount for the radiator I would like to find someone with Trev's old upgraded mounts. (bottom of page)
http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/a..._bars.html#BRA

so my questions are
1) is the tripoint bar all I need (end links)

2) do I need the RB stiffenerhttp://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda3.htm

3) do I need to upgrade the rear bar also?

4) anyone know where to get Trev's mounts?

5) is there another way to fix this??

DamonB,

Thanks I just saw the PM.... this computer is going slow.

Yes I have the stock bar, but since I also bent the F*^! out the mount also I was thinking of just getting the tripoint one...

and either trying to get new mounts and move the radiator back or have marvelspeed weld and fix it (which they said they have had to do in the past)

what do you think??? Did you upgrade your bar and have the stocker lying around?

Do you realize that the Tripoint bar and endlinks all together is approx $800 (last I checked)? Don't bother unless you intend to seriously track the car.

Yep. I have the Tripoint bar with solid bronze bushings and the Tripoint mount braces. My stock bar is on the shelf in the garage if you need it.

well, unless you want to put the stock one backon and let me "borrow' your tripoint one????

but If the guys at marvel get the part bent back....should I get that support brace that racing beat sells to strengthen that area since the integrity has been compromised there?

I recommend the Widefoot mounts. I bent one of my stock mounts and these are my favorite replacements. Besides their beefy construction and unique mounting features, they also move the bar up an inch or so for reduced chance of hitting it on something. I think the Widefoot mounts are just fine by themselves -- no need for additional bracing, most likely.

The Tri-Point sway bar is also my favorite because it is the most adjustable, and I think it was $500 when I bought one last year (with urethane rather than bronze bushings). It works just fine with the Widefoot mounts, though I did read about some tweaks that might be required with the bronze bushings if you get those. It bolts right up with the urethane bushings.

I got the 0.188" wall thickness torsion bar and I am running it with the stock 93 rear bar. It feels good to me. I got a stiffer rear bar, too, but I want to take my car to a few track events before I decide to install it or not. What works for you and your car is up to you.

The bronze bushings will only bolt onto the car if you also use the Tripoint mount braces. The flange that the bronze bushings are mounted in has bolt holes wider than the stock mounts, making them completely incompatible with eachother. This is also why you can't use the Widefoot mounts with the bronze bushings as the Tripoint braces will only attach properly at the stock roll bar height.

Tripoint bar with stock type rubber bushings (compatible with all sway bar mounts):

Bronze bushing kit with Tripoint mounting braces. The braces extend rearward from the mount when installed and ties into two unused boltholes in the front suspension subframe. Note the width between the bolt holes for the bronze bushings:

Nope; only the bar itself and the stock rubber mounts that bolt to the frame extenders.

A similar situation happened with me. My stock sway bar, and mounts in the front have been f*cked. I decided to go ahead and buy an anti-roll upgrade kit for both front and rear sway bars.

What shape is your radiator in? I believe mine has sprung a leak, but I haven't gotten under the car yet. Also, how does the car drive? I'm curious because I may have other problems.

Hmmmm....

damn I wish I would have seen the rest of your replies....I ended up ordering the stock mounts from Malloy...

I left a voicemall for Widefoot but havn't gotten a reply. I also left a email to tripoint and no reply.

I havn't sprung a leak but now that you mentioned your settings I might just get the tripoint and widefoot mounts....

Shinobi X...the car actually drives fine. I have the Koyo radiator and when I was under it I didn't see a leak and havn't seen any puddles under the car nor smelled buring coolant.

I do notice a little more body roll when I turn right...I bent the left end of bar....I guess that makes sense....

Does anyone know of the best way to get a hold of Widefoot?

The Widefoot stuff is absolutely first rate. David's swamped with work and getting his new shop set up, but once he's up & running, I'm sure that he'll be cranking out more goodies.

I've got his swaybar mounts with the Tripoint front swaybar. And I'm also using the urethane bar bushings. They seem to have a lot of friction though (yes, I greased them), so I'd like to find some type of bronze (or similar) bearing to substitute for the urethane. I need to set aside some time to poke around McMaster Carr...
