when time comes to change the brake pads on a PowerSlot slotted brake rotor equipped car, what do you do?? must you buy a new rotor? is it possible to turn a slotted rotor? or can you just keep the rotors as is and install fresh new pads??

If your new pads are the same ones you are replacing, or even a different model from the same line of pads (in some cases) you can just install the new pads and keep your rotors as-is.

The reason to turn them is to make the surfaces parallel if they are warped or thick-n-thin, or to remove the old pad's transfer layer if you are switching to a different type of pad. Some pads have a transfer layer that will be removed by the new pad, but others (like PFC pads) have a very stubborn transfer layer that won't come off without turning the rotors.

I guess you can try turning the slotted rotors if you decide that you need to. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. The slot won't be as deep, or might go away completely, but as long as the rotors are not under the minimum thickness you should have no problems.

I wouldn't turn slotted rotors. If they're warped, I'd replace them. If you're trying to remove a pad transfer layer, I'd use some steel wool, or medium grit sand paper...

Oh yeah, this should work, too. This is probably the best choice.

 

the exact same pads will be used (Perfomance Friction Carbon Metalics), and the rotors are not warped.
