Question about 99 Spec wheels and tire sizes

Hey everyone! I just recently picked up my FD a few months ago and am in the process of picking up some 99 spec wheels (the 5 spokers, not the BBS wheels). Had a quick question about tire sizes.

A popular choice while searching seemed to be 235/40R17 and 255/40R17. My question is, despite the wheels being staggered and, admittedly, a bit too skinnier than what would be optimal, would it be possible to fit 255s all the way around? A guy here locally is selling a set of 4 255/40R17 Nitto NT01s at a steal of a deal and I wouldn't mind picking them up and running them for a bit... Just didn't know with the 99 spec offset (or should I say inset... need some spacers stat, ha!) if 255s would be possible up front.

Thanks for any input!

I'm just curious, how much did you pay for your set of the 99+ wheels?

I just got these wheels too and I went for the popular 235F 255R setup and actually the same exact tire too, Nitto NT01.

These tires don't run very wide, like a Hoosier for instance would be spilling off the rim. So I would say you CAN do it, but it wouldn't be ideal and it'll look a little squished.

Wrong section man. You'll get more help in the wheels and tires section.

I'm running the Spirit R wheels. You need spacers. STAT

I have some 99 specs and was going to get some spacers too -

I like your offset - you remember what mm you're running?

I believe they were 10mm front 20mm back? I've been told I could use bigger spacers any though.

I saw a thread where someone with 99 spec wheels ran a 15mm spacer in the front and a 20mm in the rear... looked about perfect.

And as far as what I picked mine up for, I got them for under $500.

Hey Pete,
As luck would have it, I have a set of 15mm front and 25mm rear hubcentric billet spacers for the 7 if you want them for the wheels. I got them for the stock wheels with track tires, but they push them out too far! I rub! Dammit!

Dude! Let me know how much you want! The 25s might be too much for the rear, but I'd be willing to give it a shot!

I've looked at the NT01s in question and I'm not entirely sure I'm going to go that route now... They look to have about 3/32nds left, which I know is the "sweet spot" essentially, but I may opt for a new set of NT05s instead. Would likely be cheaper in the long run. I may just go ahead and do the popular 235/40r17 and 255/40r17 that most do as well... Been reading Howard's thread about track setup and I feel like I shouldn't put tires that are wider than the wheels on now.

stock 99 wheel specs:
17x8" +50 front, 17x8.5" +50 rear
i think 25 is too much for the rear, heres my setup comparison
20mm spacers on rear, 15mm on front, 235/40 F, 255/40 R
and 255/40 on 8" wheel is not recommended, though it would probably fine for street driving

Curious, im from op and just got an fd not too long ago. The wheels that came on it are momo corses and from what I can tell online they are all 17x7's. What wheels did you have on yours...I might be interested (but would rather find some wheel spacers for it -clueless on how big I need though)

Mine had OZ Racing wheels on it, but they're 16's. Dunno if you'd want to head backwards towards stock sizes. We should meet up sometime though! I only know two of the rotorheads in town (Art and Kyle), so it'd be nice to meet up with a few others.
