Pinion angle

I am swapping out my stock real for the larger 1980 Supra rear. The botton mounts line up fine but i had to cut off and move the top mounts. What pinion angle should I set it up at? I have a solid motor and tranny mount setup going right now if that helps.

Thanks
Aaron

Measure the angle that the tailshaft of the tranny, or any engine surface that is parallel to the crank, and point the diff so it is parallel. So if the tranny is pointing down toward the rear the diff should be pointing up toward the front. If you have soft bushings in the rear suspension you may want to have about a degree difference so when the suspension is loaded with axle torque things will line up.(the front of the diff will try to lift under load)

If it is flat that is OK. You want to make sure that everything is parallel so make the pinion the same angle. Only worry if the two are pointing straight at each other at the same height, as in a line through the crank, tranny and pinion are the same line. You want one higher or lower is all, or even side to side a little. Having the pinion point down a degree or so may work out best depending on how fast you plan to cruise or how hard you launch from a stop. If you have solid rear suspension bushings you will have to worry about ride height and pinion angle change with suspension travel. Try to set it to match while in the suspension position it will spend most of its time.
