Thumbs up pillow ball joint repair tool

Hi Guys,

I have been experiencing the noisy FD rear pillow ball joints. I hate it!! I finally got under the car and replaced a couple of bad ones. The outer bearing on both rear lower arms was the problem. I figured that I am going to be replacing more of these, and I am NOT going to pay someone to do it. I'm way too cheap, and I don't really like anyone working on my car.

I did a little research, and found a nice "C" clamp bearing press. I bought it at my local NAPA auto parts store. It was on sale for $85. I made them give me an additional 10% off because I am a AAA member. The tool worked very well, and made the job fairly easy. I did have to use a socket, as the presses included with the kit were too large for the pillow ball bearing.

Anyway, here's a link to the tool I used. I did not buy it from the company in the link.

Adam

You can do it with bolts, washers, nuts, and sockets, too:

I have seen your site, and did consider that. But, this is a new tool for me. I like tools!! Its big and heavy ...... and it wasn't too expensive. It is also pretty fast. I figure that I will be doing more of these over the years, and it would be nice to have the "right " tool

Yeah, the C clamp makes it very easy. I even did the second one with the arm still on the car.
