Original FD Wheel offset

what was the original 8" width offset? I think it was +50?

speaking w/ TireRack about some new 17" wheels for tracking and they are recommending +35/+38. Does that seem odd to anyone here?

I have a set of 18" now that are 42/50. BTW i love the turn in and feel so...

Curious to what others are running.

so does +35 / +38 even make sense on 8.5/9.5 wheels or are they just selling what they got...

i cant really say i use way different sizes...but i do have a set of 17x9+38 and those fit fine. i think most people prefer over 40 for the wider ones.

i personally would never go by what tirerack or other places say.

Do some searching on offsets in the wheel/tire forum. The stock offset brings the rims in a LOT, going to a lower offset gives the car a wider stance and fills the fenders up much nicer.

My Racing Beat wheels are 17x8/17x9 with a +35mm offset. This is as low of an offset as you can go without scrubbing problems, fits the fenders very nice and tight. Personally, this is an awesome fit, I really dig the look of having the fenders filled out.

Do some reading up on offsets and draw your own conclusion. Rishie (ArdT2) has some good posts about offsets in the wheel/tire area.

ok, to make sure i am doing this right, 8" wheel converts 203.2 MM, so w/ a +50 offset, 151.5 is from the hub to the inside of the car, and 51.5 from the hub to the fender. so if the guy at tirerack is right in suggesting an 9" at +35, this converts to 149.3 inside the hub and 79.3 from the hub to the fender. This means 28mm closer to the lip of my fender which is like an 1" closer. is that correct?

if so i think it will rub.

with that +35 offset do you need wheel spacers or not

On the FD?

Spacers are needed when the offset is too high, not too low.

I used an 8.5 +37 up front for a wile, and you'll want rolled fenders for it, particularly if the car islowered.

Crappers....

car is lower 1" but i track it and on some corners i can bottom the corners out, long sweeper with a bump at the end when car is fulled leaning on one side.

Besides the need to make it stiffer with springs i have to account for the fact the the wheelw will move up into the wheel well, so i guess if i get +38 in back i need to roll them to be be safe.
