TX Opinions on front tire width with no PS

On my '86 NA, I was running Celica/Supra 14x7 wheels all around WITHOUT powersteering. Great looking wheels and performed well, but I've decided to go LS1, and now have some research to do. Obviously I will need more rubber out back ...

... but what are everyones opinions on TOO wide of a wheel in the front with no PS. This car will not be a daily driver, but may see some weekend street use. Will primarily be a road race and drift car.

I'd like to go with 17x9s all around. Anyone have any experience? Any opinions or info will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Andrew

for drifting you're definately gonna want PS

for everything else, you can run 255's on a manual rack. autox is the worst, but doable depending on tire and arm strength. for track, there shouldnt be any prob at all.

I run 285/30/R18 on the fronts with no PS (properly converted rack) on my track car (Road Course) and I think it feels just fine. Even when I have taken the car around the block on the street it isn't to bad.

I run 255/40-17 NT01 up front on my auto-x FC with manual rack.

It is easy to get behind on inputs in tight Auto-x but it feels great on the street and higher speed track stuff. The feedback is phenomenal on turn in and at the limit.

In contrast I HATE the numb power steering feel on my FD but it sure is easy to Auto-x fast.

I would love to adapt RX-8 electric rack assist power steering to the FC...

Great feedback!

For now I will most likely just run with my current rack and a stretched tire up front. Then eventually if I don't feel that it is helping me enough on the drift courses, I'll go PS rack with an MR2 electric pump.

Thanks,

Andrew
