Hi, I'm looking at two different wheels and both are the same size. They are 18 x 8 with a 38mm offset. I was thinking a 235 or maybe 245 size tire as well.

It's the inside clearance that'll be the problem though, 18x8 with a 38mm offset and 235's are going to rub on the suspension in the front. You'd need spacers or you'll need to run a lower offset. Something closer to 30mm should work, or less if you really want to fill out some wider fenders.

If you went back only 1 page (OR SEARCHED), you would have seen this wheel will work if you do a mod like I did. Also, why doesn't anyone freakin search anymore????

I could have gone lower offset, but staying close to the factory offset is always better from a handling and engineering point. Too low of an offset and you get away from the engineering that went into the suspension and you can run into things like your wheels following grooves in the pavement, harder to steer at low speeds, the steering wheel being jerked out of your hands of bumps, more wear and tear on your bearing and suspension pieces etc. That and I HATE wheels sticking out of fenders. To make the front wheels work I used eccentric bolts (or commonly called "crash bolts") were the strut bolts to the hub/spindle assembly. Usually this is done to be able to dial in or out camber. So I dialed in positive camber (top of wheels tilted out) to gain clearance between the strut and wheel. Then I dialed back in negative camber using camber plates for handling.
Ted, you have way more pateince for repeated idiot questions then I do. Why isn't there a sticky with basic information so people can do the damn math on their own and figure out what fits or not without these repeated questions over and over and over? I think its over due, Ted, want to set up a sticky with all the math involved? I'll add to it, we can keep this thread (which is now useless except for those who posted in it last because no one will read all 1300 post) for questions for those not compitent enough to use the math or too lazy, and make the new thread for those who like to know how things work and be confident in their own desicions for parts for their car. ~Mike......... |

This may be OT but is there any place I can find reliable information on what wjheels are available in what sizes? I find myself really wanting a set of OZ Supertourismos but nobody seems to have them in 17*8 in the right size & bolt pattern. Tirerack only seems to sell them in 17*7. I was going to go for the FN01R-C's but I find myself not liking the way they look, however they are available in the right fitments.
I am also still debating whether to go with the staggered fitment DigitalSynthesis posted on page one of this thread, or with 17*8 all around - since I am not going for competition absolute traction is not such a huge issue, and I tend to enjoy a car a bit on the "loose" side - I am concerned the car is going to push like a pig with a staggered setup. On the other hand the car is putting out about 300rwhp now, and I guess I need all the rubber I can in back to put that power down. |

This thread is a test of my patience. I kinda like it cause I get to use my brain for a change to calculate all the possibilities that people ask for. I do have a chart which I had written up recently. http://fc3spro.com/TECH/MODS/RT/rims.htm I think people are just too lazy to do their own research and would rather just ask their particular question and wait for an answer. Such is life nowadays... *sigh* I'll be doing a comprehensive write-up for 8.0" wide wheels up front, so that might cut down the number of questions about that. BTW, these eccentric bolts or "crash bolts" can be had from Engles, Eibach, and OBX for lrss then $15.00. Theres alwasy rumors of these things comming loose and such, but I believe it to be some isolated events and just internet heresay. I've been running these bolts for over 5 years and PUNISH my car and have never had one loosen up. Ted, you have way more pateince for repeated idiot questions then I do. After doing some more researching I think I am going to go with the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2's in silver. Not too expensive, fairly light, and I like the multi-spoke look. Word from the road racing people is that they're pretty strong too. I also have decided to go with the staggered fitment: 17*8 25mm offset front, 17*9 23mm offset rear - sound OK to everyone?
Now I just have to save up my pennies & check availability w/Rishie... |

rims are 17x8 If you're a cheap ass, check out the Kumho 711's. They are like ~$70 for the proper 17" tire size. If you want cheaper, bug all the service stations or the local tire shops to see if you can get used tires. Running the wrong size tire diameter is just downright dangerous. -Ted |
