OEM FD wheels, removing stains or other thoughts...

Guys,

I bought my car with crash damage as a project. The bodywork and painting is to be finished this week. It's rolling on the original wheels. The car was crashed probably in 2002 or 2003, and just sat until 2005/end when I bought it.

Since then I've been tinkering with it, getting it running, etc. Now that the paint is near finished I'm trying to figure out what to do with the OEM wheels.

I like the styling of them, but they have stains that won't come off with normal car wash. I supposed the stains are from whatever got on the wheels during the crash and it sat for ~ 3 years or so.

Question - What can I use to clean these wheels to make them look as close to as new condition? They're not scuffed up at all. Just spots / stains.

Or, do you guys have any suggestions to have them chromed or other? I wouldn't mind buying R8 R3 wheels (if they would fit in the wheel wells), but if I can clean these wheels up to like new condition, I would just keep them, at least for a while.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would just get them sand blasted and then either painted or power coated. If you want the silver look of the originals, you'll probably have to do paint.

Sandpaper doesn't sound very effective because the wheels aren't smooth, but sandblasting would work. I wouldn't bother, though ... they weren't shiny to begin with. I'd buy a can of silver paint, clean the wheels really well with soap and water, mask off the tires with some newspaper, spray and call it a day.
