OE 3rd gen wheel plus sizing
OE wheels 16x8 16lbs with 50mm offset aluminum...correct?
Any thoughts on widening it to 16x9...came across a pair i can use and a shop that has the experience...offset ?

I've often thought about that some time in the past...a 9-inch wide stocker would work supremely well with a 245/45-16, and you'd keep the wheel weight down under 17-lbs or so...a 45-mm offset should work. The tricky part is keeping the rear wheel's inboard rim lip away from the rear trailing arm.
The 9 x 16 rim would provide supremely better sidewall support for a 245/45-16 tire. An 8-inch rim compresses the tire sidewall too much and you can see the sidewalls "bulging" away from the rim...
Besides if you think a 245/45-16 already works well on the 8-inch wide rim, why bother with fabbing a 9 x 16? There are no 16-inch tire sizes that are wider than 245/45-16?

Khumo makes a 265/45/16 which would work on a 16 x 9" wheel. The problem would be finding such a wheel cheaply. You'd probably have to go modular, then you'd be better off just buying some cheap SSR 17".
I've looked into wheel widening, and it can be done. Weakens the wheel approx. 20%. Also, you can only add to the inside of the wheel, so the offset of the wheel would increase quite a bit. With the stockers, you likely have to run spacers to keep it off the trailing arms. By the time you dis all THAT, might as well get cheap 17's again.
FYI, you CAN get 16 x 8.5" wide Kosei K1s, which are light, cheap and heat treated (fairly strong.)

Each wheel/tire weighed <35 lbs. The wheel weighed 16 lbs.
