not your usual Q on Konis...
not your usual Q on Konis...
This is on my recently acquired 93 Touring running Konis with stock springs and sways.
2 questions:
1. Take a look at the pics and tell me which one is the correctly installed Koni. The previous owner made a mistake one lower spring perch is installed one way and another is installed reversed.
As a result, the ride height is also off by 1/2" side to side. Which brings me to my next question.
2. Which perch should I set the Konis? Ride height is 26" from floor to top of wheel well on passenger side. It is 26 1/2" on driver side. What is the 'correct' ride height for a car running Konis with stock springs and stock wheels with 245/45 Kumho 712? Yes it was measured on a flat surface.
I have 2" of clearance between the top of the tire and the wheel well lip. I'd like to decrease that slightly if I could. Car looks all jacked up right now.
Thanks for your help.

The driver side is wrong. If you have 3 grooves on the shock than the highest is stock, mid aprox 1/4" and lowest aprox 1/2" drop. BTW, I don't think there are many RX7s that set perfectly level side to side.

If I look this jacked up on the lowest setting with 2" of clearance between the tire and fender and 26" to the wheel well, how ridiculously high is it going to be on the highest setting?
From what I've read people say to set the perches on the high setting to retain stock ride height and clearance issues with the fender liner, but there is no a stock 7 is higher than mine right now.
Can someone with a similar configuration please measure their ride height from ground to the middle of the wheel well opening? I'm curious what others are running.
Thanks.

Never mind the grooves, one perch (the first one) is upside down!!
w/ stock springs, i'd prolly run the fronts on the middle groove, and the backs on the lowest groove... just like i did my eibachs... maybe even both on the lower.
the upper is stock height.

OK the perch on the driver's side is reversed! I'll be fixing that.
I was thinking of that too (running on the middle groove), but I want to get a base line so I don't wind up *too* low. Right now I definitely have clearance to lower 1/2-1" up front.
Can anyone out there hook me up with ride height measurements so that I have a basis of comparison please?
Thanks.

per the factory manual, as long as the rear fender lip is higher than the front, you're cool... you prolly want em fairly close to each other.... and the lower koni perches lower the car approx. 3/4" each.

Can't be. Check the pics. One of the perches is definitely reversed.
