Its not just the diameter of the wheels, its the bolt pattern, offsets, and tire/wheel widths you have to worry about.

For starters, the 14" phone dial rims are 5.5" wide, with a 4x4.5" bolt pattern and 38mm offset (although some sources say 40mm, its insignificant).

Most 16" or 17" diameter wheels will be at least 6" wide. This page from Tire Rack will explain how to calculate correct offsets, etc.

Here's a tiresize calculator to let you know what dimmension tires to get to keep your speedometer correct.

I just put 18" wheels on my 88gxl and they fit fine.

Where are you getting your rims?

Since you have the 4 lug, you will be limited on your width options. I would suggest a 16" wheel for that, especially if you want performance. See if you can get 7.5's or 8's. If you PM or e-mail me, autornd@hotmail.com, with the possible brands you're interested in I can get you the offset info.

Good luck,

I have 17x8 w/ 225's on the front and 17x9 w/ 255 on my T2, PERFECT fit for me, great setup on my JIC adj. coilovers and the cambered front fit great. It was a drift car, I loved that, but I haven't found any interest in it here...
