new 17x10 +50 wheel
thought a few people here might be interested in this, this size and offset are hard to come by without dropping $3k+ on Rays/Volks, CCW, etc.
Rota recently released their RT5 wheel in a 17x10 +50 5x114.3 size
weight is on the fugly side at 20# each but they are really cheap, a new set is FS on eBay for $800, they are probably under $900/set of four through regular retail channels
a few S2000 guys are tracking on them

Yep, one of the S2000 racers is sponsored by Rota and some some data from a race where he ran those with some lighter wheels (Enkei's) back to back. The difference was about 0.2.

There's some horror stories, but there are also a lot more stories about how they work just fine. I had a set of SubZeros on my old Protege5 for about a year (including more than a few laguna seca days) and never had a complaint. Once I got rid of them for a set of real JDM wheels on it, tho, I never looked back. It's all about what's important to YOU, the driver of the car.

Why not just run a 17x10 +38MM rpf1? These can be had for $1,050 shipped on ebay. Maybe less through one of the vendors here in rx7club?
You can easily fit a 255/40/17 tire on that with some rolled fender lips. I am running 18x10 +38 with 265/35/18 all around with rolled fender lips.
17x10 RPF1 weigh 16.9 lbs

I have a set of 949Racing wheels on my FD 17x10 with a 52mm offset. These were a shade over $1,000 and they fairly light. Can weigh em this week if anybody is interested.
Sorry for the thread jack, but I figured I would throw out info about a budget priced set of rims to add to the options.

Good thing with these wheels is that they give the option of running nitrogen with the dual valves. Here's a pic of them on my car with Toyo 275/40/17s front and rear. Note - same offset as S2000 IMG00088-20100923-1714.jpg?t=1285655137

I have a set of the 17x10 949R wheels too. Posted this up because they NLA and I know FD3 owners want something in this size/offset range.
just ordered a set of Bogart 17x10.5 +48 3pc wheels race wheels for my RX8 and even won't be all that light, about 18# each. I could have bought 3 sets of the Rota wheels though so you can't beat the price, lol :-/

I just installed mine a couple of days ago, fitment is pretty good, the fronts look they might need a small fender roll or increased camber, I still need to get mine aligned though so its hard to tell. It is very close to perfect though. The rears are about 1/4" away from the rear trailing arm, and will prob need a 3-5mm spacer because the the center of the rear hubs pushed the center cap out by a couple of mm. But they undoubtedly will fit underneath a stock car.
I got mine off of Ebay for less than 800 shipped, and went with bridgestone RE760s 265/40/17.
