Nice wheels, they'd look better on a FD instead of the kitchen floor IMO .

Anyone have a suggestion on tire sizes?
they are 8's up front and 9's in the back.
I was thinking 235/45/17 and 255/45/17
Im wondering if that would cause a problem once I put springs on.
I am going to do some springs right about the same time.
Will the fronts will rub the fender?
Should I do 40 sidewall instead.
Any advice is appreciated.

235/45 and 255/40 would likely work well.

I didn't see any offsets posted. If the fronts are a lower offset, you may want to run 225/45 up front to gain a little clearance.

IMO, a 275/40 is too wide for a 9-inch rim but people do it. In fact, the 03 Cobra has that same setup. However, it is not the best for handling. Also, running 275 rears with 235 fronts will lead to a lot of understeer. The car will have better balanced handling with 235 fronts and 255 rears (which is what the 99+ Japan FDs run).

EDIT: Actually, I just noticed that Ptrhahn is running 235 fronts/275 rears. You might want to PM him about the handling feel/balance.

Funny you should ask!

I like the 275/235 combo... As far as balance, i disagree with the assertion that this will automatically produce understeer... on what corner, at what speed? with what other suspension components? Making what sort of horsepower?

I went wider in the rear to combat power-on oversteer i had w/ 245's all around, and it helped alot. Wish i had a 10" wide rear wheel for them though....

Peter,

On the street, my car feels pretty damn neutral. On a very tight auto-x track a few weeks ago, my car started to push more than I would like. This is with completely stock 95 suspension (don't forget that 94s and 95s already understeer more than 93s due to the smaller rear bar) and stock size 225/50 tires all around.

I imagine that running 235/275 tires would understeer quite a bit unless the suspension was modified to adjust for this, such as larger rear bar, smaller ratio between front/rear spring rates, etc.

Also, I am going off of Manny and Max's experiences that such setups will tend to understeer.

You might need to roll your rear fenders with 275's. Vosko had to.

Indeed, one mans oversteer is anothers understeer! Ever see one of M. Shumacher's teamates try to drive the "T" car set up for Shuey? You are correct, sometimes i see some understeer on the real low-speed stuff, like 1st gear auto-x turns.

Anyway, since he's got a 9" rear, i'd be inclined to go down to a 265/40/17 (available in SO3 and T1S) w/ the 235/45/17 or 245/40/17 front.

Thats why i'm looking to change from my SSR integrals. If only they'd come in 9.5-10"

Would there be any problems ptrhahn, with 235/45/17 on the 8" fronts and say 265/40/17 on the 9" rear?

Also I dont know so i'll ask. If the center number represents wall height, why shouldnt they all be 40's? What is the big difference with doing 45 up front and 40 in the rear?
Im no tire size guru so please explain.

The "40" means the sidewall is 40% of the width of the tire, so a 275/40/17 is a taller sidewall than a 225/40/17. Stupid way to do it, but thats the way it is.

The combo you mention would be fine on those wheels.

p.s. I'n NOT Farrell. :-)

What up donkey? Those wheels will look money on your IBM ride. (I'm learning Rikkanese)

If you want to test fit some 235/45/17's up front you are welcome to use my wheels sometime. I have 8's in the front but my offset is +35mm, so they will sit a little wider than yours. My rears are 255/40/17's on 9.5 inch width rims (+45mm offset) but if you are getting street tires I'd recommend 275's... the only reason I got 255's is that is/was the maximum width available for Toyo RA-1 road race tires. I'll be at the MSCW autocross Sunday afternoon at Rosecroft Raceway. Later.

why would you get tom's rims. even though they fit, tom's is a toyota tuner. it's like a supra getting re-a or mazdaspeed rims. or when non-hondas get mugen stickers. nice rims though.

IMHO, I'd stay with 255/40-17 on 9 or 9.5 wides. 275s really need 10 wides to be effective in providing maximum rubber-to-road contact patch.
