Michelin Pilot Super Sport - recommendations?

I've been doing a bit of online research and it's been pointing in the direction of these tires – I'm looking at 235 45/17 tire sizes. I'm currently running Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires on RX-8 wheels.

I mostly drive on the highway (in the dry – no winters) with a few summer lapping events + track school per year. Wet performance is just in case I get caught in a rainstorm.

GoodfellaFD3S wrote a decent summary in 2011 – does anybody have an updated impression? I think tires like the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, Bridgestone RE-11A, Dunlop Direzza ZII and Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R are probably overkill for my street driving.

I don't need to be particularly competitive with my track performance, but I like good handling, braking, etc. and safety and reasonable durability are also important. No autocross – I prefer road courses.

The Pilot Super Sports are great tires on the street and at the track. Mine have performed very well for me. But I wouldn't consider the B'stone RE11A, Yoko AD08R, or Dunlop ZII to be overkill for your usage, they are street tires and they also have decent wet grip. RE11A in particular seems like a good choice for street/track usage. Pilot Sport Cups are more track-oriented R-comps, different category.

Thanks – I'll consider the non-Michelin tires, then. There seems to be a price premium on Michelin products, and I didn't see any Tire Rack reviews from FD owners.
