Life of SS brake lines

Life of SS brake lines
Was just thinking, I have had my Goodrich lines on the car for probably close to 10 years, how long will these things last. I try to wipe and inspect them before every event I run, just curious how long them might be good for.
Any thoughts?

I doubt anyone will be able to give you an intelligent answer backed up by data, but I'd definitely replace my lines by now if I were you. Mine have only been on for ~4 years and I'm replacing them now (had to open up the brake lines anyway, figured might as well). They can and do fail, one way to try and prevent this from happening is to replace them periodically. A very good idea would be to ensure that the lines you get have a sleeve over the SS to prevent bits of dirt or what not from wearing a hole in the liner, which is a failure mode I've heard quoted before.

To the original poster, you are now my benchmark until further notice, I would consider SS lines good for 10 years. I have a hard time trusting a rubber(ish) part for much longer.

If I hadn't been doing a bunch of brake work anyway I probably wouldn't have botherd, but seeing as these lines have seen the cold of winter and the heat of the race track, I'd rather be on the conservative side. Besides, it's not like $100 for new lines is going to bankrupt me or anything.

Yea, I just thought as long as I inspected them and they looked good with nor fraying, they would be good. Then I started to think it couldn't hurt to change them. Who makes coated ones? I saw those Shakebomb one's offered through FDnewbie, think I might get those.

I have been very happy with the Stoptech SS lines. They are a little pricey, but very high quality and have a thick plastic sheath, and are readily available.

we dont see winters in CA, but my last gsl-se had a set of lines put on it in 1992-1993 and they are still on there and still fine. it's done track days since 2002
current car is an ex pro7 car, lines are from 97, this one was in a garage so its low miles but they are fine too.
on both cars, i'd rebuild the calipers before i replaced the lines.
