koni newbie q's

I just got my Koni yellows and I got a few questions about adjusting/installing them.

1) How do I know if they are at the full soft or full hard setting? With them uninstalled and uncompressed I can twist (adjust) them as much as I want in either direction. The (vague) instructions that came with them imply that they have a point where they will no longer turn (most soft or firm setting), as I would expect. If I depress them all the way down and then adjust them, they only turn less than 1/2 turn, but I know they are supposed to turn more than that.

2) How do I adjust the spring seat on the shock? The directions imply that I pull the shock in two pieces and then adjust the seat. Is this correct (again, the instructions are VERY vague)? Is it pretty straight forward?

3) In the workshop manual (pg R-28) it notes that there is a directionality with the stock rear shocks (the "painted side" faces the rear). Is there a front and back side (relative to front and back the car) with the rear koni's, or doesn't it matter?

4) I gat the Eibach pro-kit with as well... are the longer springs the rear springs? The part numbers on the springs are: 5525.001 (shorter spring) and 5525.002 (longer spring), I can't seem to find this info anywhere.

Thanks

-Matt

1) Use the **** that comes with them to adjust them. It has an arrow and the word "FIRM" on it. You should be getting more than 1/2 a turn, assuming these are the SA (single adjustable) ones.

2) The springs have a snap ring that can fit in 1 of 3 positions.

3) Just take note of how the old ones come out, and mount the new ones that way. This mostly has to do with a bracket for either the brake line, or the ABS sensor.

4) When you do the front ones, you need to open up where they mount at the bottom. There is a press fitting you need to knock with a hammer or something.

To add to Pverdiek's comments:

1 - The Konis have 2 full turns of adjustment.

2 - Mount the Eibachs on the highest spring "seat". Otherwise you will be hitting your fender liners....

Hopefully someone with Eibach's will chime in but I would assume the longer spring would go on the rear.

Thanks for the replies... I just don't get why I can turn the konis as much as I want .

Has anybody taken an uninstalled shock and turned the adjustment **** on them? Is there something wrong with mine, they just turn and turn... there is no 2 full turns .

My eibachs are as follows:

The rear springs are cylindrical in overall profile. They are probably about 2.5 inch innner diameter.

The front springs are about 2.5 in diameter at the bottom but are much larger diameter at the top to meet the upper spring mount.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

I have the eibach pro springs. The 5525.002's are for the rear. .001's are the fronts. Hope that helps.

Oh you can feel a difference. At full soft, the Konis are valved similarly to the stock R1 shocks. At full hard, they are HARD. It is a world of difference.
