That's the first time I've ever heard that the wheels with straight spokes were a couple pounds lighter than the ones with spokes that curve into the barrel of the wheels. Wonder where they hid that 2 pounds in the revised wheels?

That 1.5 - 1.6 lbs. of "heft" is in the spokes I'm sure.

Interesting. I've never seen that picture in 7 years of ownership. Every picture I've seen posted of the backside of the wheels prone to cracking looks like the wheel on the right, but the spokes meet the barrel of the wheel at a right angle instead of curving into it like the stronger wheels. That's the only difference that I've ever heard of. Guess the saying is true that you learn something every day.

I have a set of each in my hands. They look exactly as that pic above: The reinforced ones have thicker spokes and bell shaped reliefs in the hub area. That's the quick way to tell, does the hub have squares (weak) or bells (stronger)?
