Question koni install questions

i bought a used koni/lowering spring setup from a forum member(yeah i know, i'm a cheapskate!). a friend of mine is trying to install them as i type and it seams that the rod which you turn to adjust the dampening on the konis has a larger diameter and is not the half moon shape of the stock shocks. should the upper bearing plates be drilled out to accomadate the koni's? i have never heard of this being required, am i missing a part?
someone please help me get the fd back on the road! thanx for your time-garrett

Yes, you need to drill or hone the hole bigger for the shock. Make sure the front shocks fit inthe lower control arm too, sometimes they are a tight fit.

There are 3 grooves cut into the shock body. The lower spring saddle sets on a snap-ring that fits in the grooves. The top one is stock hieght each one after is 1/4" aprox. If you have stock springs you will most likley need to remove the shock I have Eibachs and can adjust them in the car. BTW changing ride hieght will change the alingment also.
Turbogarret, what setting are you using on the damping? I finally tried adjusting mine and about 1/2 turn off full soft worked good for me, it also helped control my tires rubbing the fenderliner.

The lower control arm mount is actually a pressed-in bushing... you can use a bolt and some large washers to press it back out a little so the lower shock fits in easilty... itle tighten back up when you tighten the mounting bolt.

The only thing that needs to be drilled out are the large, rubber-coated stopper/washers that are on top of the shock towers, under the hood (and under the plastic covers in back). You just need to ream the hole out a bit.

You'll need to to take the top nut off the shock shaft, and remove these black stoppers before you can remove the shocks that are in there.

What springs did you get?

My recommendation for Eibachs is to set the perch on the highest setting in front, and on the middle setting in the rear. Eibach lower the front quite a bit, and the rear not so much... a little compensation is in order.

I just switched to M2 coilovers, but ran that setup before. Have a set of Eibach pro-kits i'll sell anyone cheap.
