Koni, Ground control...?
I am just debating on what suspension to get and I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I've read many threads that say that Konis can be upgraded with new internals, but for how much and how are they comparable to a good set of coilovers?
What potential do koni yellows have? When i decide to upgrade, what does koni offer to make the yellows better?
Can you run any spring with the ground controls?
Thanks

You might want to look into Bilsteins as well. They are a bit cheaper, but lack the magic adjustment ****.
The Koni dampers are good for up to ~600lbs springs before needing to be revalved, and Bilsteins are good til around 500lbs.
The koni rebuilds/revalves are around $120/corner; Bilsteins are around $70/corner.
The benefit of running a Koni/Bilstein damper and coilover conversion is that they can handle the abuse of "hardcore" road racing. Coilovers like Tein aren't designed for a dedicated track car, their more for the street. At the end of the day they perform and cost similarly to a good coilover (Silkroad, Ohlins).

strike up the paean
there really isn't any need to do any work with off the shelf koni if the rates you want are what most people start with.
as for koni vs. jdm coilover
the big pro is
-many opine that koni yellow shocks are better than most shocks in integrated coilover sets
the cons are
-you will lose out on dual height adjustability
-you still need to add mounts to the setup
-installing them usually involves more labor
