Kevin T Wyum's wheel offsets?

Using the consensual information that a 42mm (38mm also works but leaves a tight front gap) is the ideal offset for a set of 10" rear wheels with stock coilovers, I have calculated the following. With 65mm coilovers one should be able to fit an 11 inch wheel (actually around 12" wide) using a 54.7mm offset which maintains front spacing equivalent to that of a 10inch (11" total) wheel with 42mm offset and allows .8" of space between the coilover and wheel. This will undoubtedly require shims to clear the arms. Or I'm wondering if it may be necessary to tighten up the front gap a little to the 38mm offset, frontspacing equivalent which is 50.7mm offset on a 12" total wheel. Due to the sectional width of the tires that I'm looking at I think 54.7mm may be the way to go. This is all assuming an unlimited selection of offsets are available which in my particular situation is the case.

Can anyone verify that 51-55mm will work for an 11inch wheel, no flares just rolled/ slightly pulled fenders, 60-65mm springs and shimmed arms? It'll be tight, but I know it has been done.

Would anyone happen to have a link to pictures of Kevin T Wyums wheel setup and/or the wheel offset information for his car? The search function didn't quite get me what I was looking for.

thanks,
Rob

Rob,
I've got 10" +42 rears. It *looks* tight on the outside, but the reality is, it works the fenders UNROLLED. That's with a 275/35 Toyo. I'm not sure it it would or wouldn't with a different brand of tire that is wider at the same size, or has a squarer shoulder. What i'm getting at though is that with a fender roll, yo umight be able to get away with more front spacing.

Gene Felber ran 11" +48's in the rear w/ 295/30 Pirellis. I've seen the car, and he litterally had the inner lips removed, and ran a fairly high ride height with lots of negative camber to get by. So somewhere in between mine and Gene's front spacing is probably ideal.

From he pictures i've seen of Kevin's car, his setup didn't "really" fit. He had the trailing arms shimmed quite a ways (and they touched the tire at full droop), and he ran it pretty high. However, they were 17" and that doesn't help with trailing link clearance.

Crispy has 11" track wheels, but only runs 275/40/17 on them. They required shimming AND a fender roll.

Thank you both for your responses, very helpful.

So to generalize, the main issue here is the trailing arm clearance correct (assuming that we are talking about ~2.5" springs)? Ignoring the trailing arms, how much of a gap would you say there was between a 2.5" coil and the Pirellis on Gene Felber's car?

I will ask gene and Crispy the same question

Did Wyum's car have an issues with the tire topping out in the well that you know of?

I am 95% sure this is Kevins Car. Just one pic though no specs.

That's Kevins... note that it's a 17" wheel, and you "gain" a little trailing arm clearance w/ an 18" wheel.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks. I talked to Kevin but he can't recall the offsets. No big deal

18s would add 1/8" or so of clearance
