Maybe seized calipers.. is there any smoke when you come to a stop or an awful smell?

Did you keep the Mazda rear brake pad shims on? These can cause noise, and need to removed with the Hawk pads.

I've installed 3 sets of Hawk HPS and 2 sets of HP+ and always used the factory shims, etc. I've never had any problems with noise aside from very MINOR squeaking at low speeds with the HP+.

Did you use anti-squeal on the back of the pads? Did you make sure to index the pin on the rear pads with the little groove on the pistons?

Which Hawk pads are you referring to that require removal of shims?

Look at the back (inside) surface of your front rotors. If you switch the bolts that hold the caliper to the upright (hub carrier), the end of the bolt will hit the rotor. It will make a horrible scraping sound. You could also lift the front tire and see if there is any major friction when turning the wheel. If it has been together a while, you may have worn a deep enough groove in the rotor that it will only rub on turns. If that is the case, you'll need a new rotor.

Another possibility is that the pads and new rotors are so thick that it rubs a little even with the brakes not applied. I had a new set of front Hawk HP pads (they had their own shims on the back) that would not fit with the stock shims installed. This situation would remedy itself after a while, but you should probably not run the stock shims until there is enough room for them.

It might be neither of these things, but they are both possibilities.

Jeff- I have hawk HPS pads, I installed them with my factory shims, and it was so tight I took the factory ones out. I don't know if it would have made noise or not, I removed the factory ones before I ran the brakes.

Max is exactly right here. There are two bolts that hold on the front caliper. If you put them back on wrong, one bolt will make contact with the rotor when you turn in a certain direction and make a horrible sound (sometimes even going straight).

Check the inside rotor face to see if you have any scratches

interesting. I didn't think there was a difference in bolts (just the washer on the bottom bolt). I gotta check my rotors now.

My brakes make kind of a weird uneven type noise, I always chalked it up to the pits on the rotor. Like they are gasing.

The bolts are exactly the same, but the thickness of the washers are different (or maybe one doesn't have a washer? I can't remember). Anyway, if you swap the bolts, one will hit the inside rotor face.
