JIC coil-overs... what do you do with the brake lines?

I bought JIC coil-overs which don't have the bracket for securing the brake line fittings. My AP Racing brake kit came with Goodridge stainless lines which have the middle fitting for that bracket. I'm assuming that the fitting will scratch the hell out of the shocks if I leave it loose.

I'd like to get a set of stainless lines without the fitting, but wondered what other people are doing to secure the brake lines (or not) after buying aftermarket shocks without the mounting brackets, and how they keep from damaging their shocks by letting the fitting dangle loose (or not).

Jim,

I spoke w/ Kevin w/ Ziel Motorsports (www.jic-magic.com). He says:

The "new" coilovers have the mounting bracket, while the "older" coilovers do not have it. He said you can just "zip tie" the lines, as this is standard racing procedure. Ziel now requests that JIC (Japan) include the mounting bracket.

Just thought I would let you know.

They don't seem to scratch anything on my car. But it's a FC.

Jim....

I have the same issue...JIC coilovers and goodridge SS lines...

Let me know what you end up doing....I am having a mechanic help me with the install as I need new rotors...

BTW, I coated the SS lines with this stuff

www.plastidip.com

got it at a local hardware spot...hopefully this will prevent dirt from getting into the braids...

Applying final coat tonight...

Apparently, although I just bought them a couple weeks ago.

Plastic dip is a good idea. I think you can buy pre-coated lines, though.

I have the DMS coilovers which also don't have the bracket. I used stainless steel hose clamps. One around the shock body at the height of the stock bracket, and another smaller clamp through that bracket and around the metal part of the brake line. It just seemed to be a "nicer" solution than zip ties.

7racer,

Sorry no pics. One of these days I have to get a digital camera. The clamps haven't moved since installing them. Those SS clamps are pretty strong, and the one around the shock body is on the threaded part, so little chance of slipping up or down.
