I so dont belive that it has to be like this(lug nuts)

Ok my car the rear tires are flat.....im in the process of trying to get the wheels off of the car....its so got me ina bind.....
the lug nuts ..yeah one of them is on there really good ....it was bending the lug wrench thingy with a breaker bar thingy attachted (blah on spelling tonight) ...
and whoever had the car before me put wheel locks on them but the key for the locks doesnt want to stay on the lock long enough for me to turn it because it fits so shallow on it...
how would you guys go about removing these?

Yes, you'll need a longer/heavier tool to get the stubborn lug nut off. I use a torque wrench that's about two feet long, and weighs around 5lbs. Makes things very easy hehe.

The breaker bar thing will work as well, to give you more leverage. I've basically chucked the stock lug wrench and carry around a spare torque wrench in the car. Also allows you to torque the lug nuts down properly.

install the lug wrench approximately parallel to the ground (horizontal) and try standing on the end of the bar...your weight should provide enough torque to free the seized lugs.

and then when you get to a safe place, have the lugs retorqued to the correct torque specs.

good luck!

Don't ever use a torque wrench as a breaker bar to loosen bolts.

A cheater on the wrench you have or standing on it as the other person recommended should work although that might not even work for a very light person.

Also, as the other person recommends, get them torqued properly when they go back on.

As for the lock. First thing, remove it first. If you leave it for last, it will be even harder to remove. You could even tighten the other lugs a little to help relieve some of the stress on the locking lug. Try to get someone with a lot of muscle to push hard on the key and try to turn it. Applying heat to the lug nut with a propane torch might help.

After that, if you are really in a jam, there are two things to try... one get a cheap impact wrench from Home Depot or somewhere and try that. This is a tool that you hit with a hammer and as it compresses, it tries to turn the head. The other tool that you could use is a special socket that has tapered reverse threads inside. You put the socket over the lug nut, push hard, and start turning it in a counter-clockwise direction. The threads start to chew into the lug, getting tighter and tighter because of the taper. Eventually, the lug will come off - destroyed.

Good luck.

sbaker's right - not suppose to use a torque wrench for something stuck, and not suppose even use it for removing bolts/nuts/etc on a regular basis, but I've used the same pair for the last 4 years w/o any major consequences/noticeable change in measurements. Not recommended though.

Just pointing out that the puny tire iron that comes with cars give little leverage, and something heavier makes life that much easier.

no torque wrench

You are supposed to hand loosen and hand tighten the lug nuts. Shops will sometimes hand loosen them but most will stil torque them back on. A key lug will strip! You can get a gorilla breaker bar/lug nut wrencch that works excellent. Find a mechanic with a massive socket wrench thats like 4 foot long or call AAA to do it for you if you have that service.

I had stupid, idiot, moron, jackass mechanic at Jackson Racing use aan impact gun, striped the lug nut, then tried to drill out the stud, kept missing and put 6 drill holes on my rim. F'n stupid *** people!

I just used the stock lug nut wrench and gave a soft but heavy and firm stomp to it to get the lugs off

I had to get the extra long wrench that's shaped like an X from Pep Boys to get mine off the first time. It was over tightened even when I saw the mechanic torqued it with a torque wrench.

first off RX7-GIRL must provide us a picture of herself(uh, with car) so we can be sure that she is a true rx7 lover. then you will be forced to go to sears and find a size smaller socket that will have to be hammered onto the lug nut. then you will take it off like it was no problem and realized that 20 bucks is down the drain unless you can get the lug nut out of the socket and take it back to sears so they can get you another one. PLEASE DONT FORGET THE PICTURE and dont ask how i know this. im a good kid, really i am.

Use a small flat screw driver or pick, remove all the dirt/rust from the key groove. Check and make sure the key groves are not worn out (if they are worn, it's going to be a whole different set of tools you're going to need to remove the lug, hope not). Best bet is to have a mechanic use an impact wrench to remove it. Good luck
