I always weigh myself everyday, in the morning and at night. Well, for grins and giggles, I weighed one of my Volk CE28N's I picked up a while back, and an 18x9.0 only weighed 16.4 pounds. I know the CE is the new lightweight wheel from Volk (not really "new" per se) but 16lbs for an 18x9? Thats lighter than I thought! I figured they would have been 19-20 lbs ish, when compared to other wheels in the price range.

There's no reason that it shouldn't be accurate, but. . . . that weight just shocked me, and seemed a little too good to be true for the size of the wheel. This is without tires, mind you. More or less, just posting because I am honestly shocked at the weight of the rim!

The cheap, flat scales people typically have in their homes are spring scales. They can be accurate but their accuracy drops at low weights for which they are not designed for. If the scale is of the pendulum variety (like at a doctor's office) you can be certain the weight was accurate.

The most accurate way to weigh your wheel on a spring scale is to first weigh yourself and then weigh yourself holding the wheel. The difference between the two is the wheel weight.

At about 60 lbs my home scale was off about 1 lb. You could bring the rim to the post office and weigh it there. The post office by my house has a scale in the front.

 

I went to the UPS store.. and they weighed them for me... no charge.. no problems. If they give you a hassle just tell them you are going to ship them later that week or some BS.

VOLK CE28N in Mercury Silver with Center Caps

18x8.5 +42 = 17.5 lbs.
18x9.5 +40 = 18.0 lbs. (actually 17.94)

 

RedR1's and Blitzedrx7's weights look correct to me. When I bought my CE28Ns, I took all four wheels, center caps, generic chrome and Kyokugen lugnuts, valve stems, four 265/35R18 Kumho Ecsta V700s, etc., to the Post Office, and weighed everything separately on their scale. Then I posted a detailed breakdown and average of all the figures.

A short time thereafter, the Forum lost my post, perhaps because the Forum crashed or the threads were reorganized and my post was dropped. Either way, I can't find my original post, or my original paper notes, and I'm not dragging all of that crap back to the Post Office

My wheels are 18x9.5x47mm and I recall that the average weight was in the low 17 lb. range. I really wish that I could remember the average tire weights. I was trying to keep the weight of the wheel/tire combination close to that of a stock wheel and tire (no, I can't find that weight either). I think that I came in about 5 lbs. higher with the bigger wheel & tire, but cannot remember the exact (average) difference.

 

After work today, i'll head out to the post office and weigh the rims. I have yet to mount them because my car is in the process of getting resprayed. I also got the Kyokugen lugnuts, which are .25 grams per lug nut IIRC. They are identical in color to the rims to boot
