FD wheels never came chrom from Mazda. If you see them chromed the owner had it done. Thus the weight is the same.

I had a set chrome plated by East Coast Plating. They do an exchange program, where they send you the chrome wheels and you send them your OEM finish wheels. The wheels looked great, until I warped 2 of them.... I think it was $150/wheel for the plating. Here is a link to their site:

Are you sure they are CHROMED as opposed to just Polished? I have only seen 1 FD with chromed wheels but many more w/ Polished wheels. Chrome does add some weight (maybe a half pound max I am guessing) in addition chrome does NOT stick very well to Aluminum so chromed alum wheels tend to start peeling in a very short time. You should be able to get the wheels polished for $50-75/ wheel, check the yellow pages under metal polishing.

PS Stock FD rims weigh in the neighborhood of 14#s iirc

We have a MB 94 touring with chrome wheels. It is not on the factory invoice. Was it a dealer installed option?

I've seen a bunch of RX-7s with chromed wheels, but I think it was a dealer option. I don't think you can order chrome wheels from Mazda. Watch out for chips and flakes on chromed wheels. Chrome is much easier to keep shiny than polished aluminum, though.

Max is right (is that the first time...hahaha). Mazda does not show a different part number for FD wheels. They only show the stock unpolished aluminum.

I know because a friend of mine has the polished (or chrome) rims. His center caps are from a stock rim, and don't match. I called Mazda to find out about getting matching caps. They don't show anything other than the stock caps.

Just a question, if an aluminum wheel is polished, is a coating applied to it after to keep it shining? Because I heard they will get dull eventually, just don't know how long.

You can have a Polished wheel Clear Coated (either Laquer or Epoxy) but it is not necessary, polished aluminum will dull after awhile but it is very easy to bring back the luster w/ aluminum polish (like MOTHERS or Blue Magic) a clear coat will scratch and/or chip over time and require stripping & refinishing - a much more difficult process than using polish on them once or twice a year.
