Question How do you properly measure rim width?

What is the proper way to measuer rim width? Are you supposed to measure it from end of the lip to the inside end or are you supposed to just measure the inside part? Thanks in advance

The wheels I'm trying to measure are 3-piece BTW if that makes any difference...

Bead-to-bead (inside the channel for the tire) if you want a number to compare to other wheel sizes. If you want to check clearances, measure from rim outer edge to rim outer edge.
