Need help on JIC FLA-2???
Bought a set a few weeks back and need to have a few questions filled.
1. Will setting the differant spring load rate change the ride heght?
2. Did every car have problems with the hood being hit? Mine do not seem to touch.
3. Is there a better way (quicker) to make the ride height the same besides measuring the fender height?
4. And last please give me an idea of your settings for the street on these.

check out a couple of these threads...

1) preloading will change the ride height, adjust the height by the lower adjustment and leave the preload alone
2) mine hit the hood like and caused a dent.
3) I think that is the easiest...then measure the distance from the perches on the coilover, and use that measurement for the opposite side.
4) I usually have it full soft rear and 4 clicks from soft on front your the street...feels like my stock touring suspension.

Thanks, I did not no there was a differance between the fla-2 and fla-ts. I ordered the spacers just incase (because I can tell there is no spacer on there presently) but no marks in the hood liner so I am guessing these are a newer model..
"preloading will change the ride height, adjust the height by the lower adjustment and leave the preload alone"
I am sure that my "preloading rates" are differant then since each side is at different heights (on top adjustments).. I was adjusting the ride height from the lower adjustment but I noticed the springs would spin on different sides.
So my last question is.. To be safe from bottoming (rubbing on the fender liner is it best to have the preload set higher up , "stiffer" then lowering from the bottom adjustment to dial it in? thanks, Mike

I'm a little confused by what you are asking about the preload settings. I have the FLT-A2 set on my FD. Here is how I adjusted by ride height:
1) I took the top perch and loosened it (out of curiosity at first) so that I could move the spring around loosely. I then tightened it back so that the perch was snug against the spring. Once it was snug I then turned the perch the amount of turns that JIC recommends to preload the spring. I think it was something like 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn. This is in a thread somewhere.
2) Once the springs were preloaded I adjusted the bottom perch to set the ride height based on my old shocks and springs.
3) After I adjusted the ride height and installed them on the car I lowered the car back onto the ground with the wheels on and checked the height.
There is a trick when you are checking the height. You want to measure from the center of the wheel (hub cap) to the bottom lip of the fender. You don't want to measure from the lip to the ground, because as you change surfaces (pavement to gravel or dirt) it will change this measurement, but measuring from the center of the wheel to the fender will be the same.
I have noticed a bit of rubbing on my hood liner and I have the "spacers." I just haven't had the time to put them on yet. I ended up just adjusting my hood latch so that it latched onto the hood at a slightly higher position. In doing this though I gently let my hood down to where it first latches and then gently push the hood down with the palm of my hand.
Several guys have mentioned that there hoods were okay until one day they (or someone else) dropped the hood instead of gently setting it down and that is when the JIC's dented there hood.
By the way I have run my JIC's on the track at VIR in Virginia and I love them. It is so much better than my old setup that it isn't even funny. I wrote down my settings, but I don't have them with me right now. I will try to get them to you over the weekend or so.

I'm fitting a set of FLT-A2 to my FD in a few days time. What spring rates are you guys running on them ?
Here in Japan they seem to come standard with 14 Kg/mm (780 lbs/in) Front and 13 Kg/mm (726 lbs/in) Rear. I thought that was too hard so specified 12 Kg/mm (670 lbs/in) Front and 10 Kg/mm (560 lbs/in) Rear. Still think that may be a bit hard but I'll know if my fillings stay in...........
