Hoosier RS compount tire question

Ok, I'm gonna put some of the Hoosier RS303's on my Fikse's. But there's a good chance the car will sit in the garage for long periods of time in one spot. So is it bad to leave a full race compound tire sit like that? Will the soft compound flat spot? Or am I just being paranoid? Would it be ok if I were to just roll the car back and forth every day or two so that it doesn't sit in the same spot for a long time?

If I need to, I'll save my stock rims and a set of street tires just to keep on the car while it's sitting. But swapping off rims is a pain in the ***.

Not a good idea, better safe than sorry, paranoia is good sometimes. If stored for an extended period it will flat spot, but if not for very long and driven to heat them up they should be okay.

From what it sounds like, I'd reccommend putting the car up on blocks and leave the wheels mounted if you don't want to bother taking them off and on.

I assume the motor isn't around yet. That sucks.

See ya, Rishie

First, as long as you're shelling out the $$ for Hoosiers, why don't you give them a call to see what they recommend? Seems to be the least they could do for you.

Second, I do recall this product claiming to eliminate flat spots, but as I recall it looked pricey. Also, when I looked into it a year or two ago, no one I knew had any experience with it. Anyway, see

Let us know what Hoosier says.

Do not keep tires on if car is sitting for extended periods. They will go out of round and the nylon belts of the Hoosiers may make it more noticeable. It's best to remove them and keep them in a dark cool place on their sides. Keep them inflated. Also keep it away from power generators (freezers, compressor motors, etc). The ozone emitted by these devices can cause the tire to harden. If you're not planning on using the tires now, wait till it's closer to track dates so you can get a fresh set of rubber. If you're really crazy, store them in an inert gas and seal the bag (a racer told me that one). But it's cheaper just to replace the tire.

I will agree with most of this except for the "keep them inflated" part. That will keep the belts under strain reducing the life of the tire. go to this site for care and feeding of R-compound tires www.autocrossracer.com Hoosier tire specific

Put the car on jack stands. Let the suspension unload as well. If the garage is out of the sunlight and it is cool, they should last.
